Godzilla has fought just about everyone Marvel can throw at him, but apparently that was only the beginning. Godzilla Conquers the Marvel Universe has already embraced the inherent chaos of dropping the King of the Monsters into Marvel history, and its latest adventure has found a particularly ridiculous way to bring two of the publisher’s biggest icons together.
This time, however, Wolverine isn’t fighting Godzilla; Marvel has apparently decided the kaiju could use a little of Logan’s powers for himself. The result is exactly the kind of monster you would expect from a universe where the Weapon X program was allowed to experiment on Godzilla, and somehow, things only get stranger from there.
The preview for Godzilla Conquers the Marvel Universe #2 takes readers to Universe 8873, where the Avengers of Doom have arrived looking for powerful kaiju to recruit. Their search brings them to a world where Frank Castle has already transformed Fin Fang Foom into the mechanical Mecha Fin Fang Foom, while the Weapon X program has apparently decided that regular mutants simply weren’t ambitious enough.

Enter Godzilla’s new Wolverine-inspired form. The kaiju emerges sporting Wolverine’s signature claws, with the Weapon X experimentation effectively transforming Godzilla into a gigantic version of Marvel’s most famous mutant berserker. The combination is already absurdly powerful, but Ghost Rider decides that even Godzilla with Wolverine claws could apparently use an upgrade. After Emma Frost explains that the scientists have hardened the kaiju against telepathic intrusion, she suggests that Ghost Rider may have better luck getting through to him. Ghost Rider promptly jumps onto Godzilla’s head, engulfs the creature in hellfire and discovers that his plan actually works. The preview ends with a flaming, Wolverine-clawed Godzilla charging into battle while Ghost Rider rides along on his head. Because apparently Godzilla becoming Wolverine wasn’t bonkers enough.
The crossover continues the increasingly bizarre premise of Godzilla Conquers the Marvel Universe, which has been using Marvel’s Multiverse to mash Toho’s monsters together with some of the publisher’s most recognizable characters. Issue #2 comes from writer Gerry Duggan, artist Javier Garrón and color artist Matt Curiel.
Godzilla Conquers the Marvel Universe #2 is on sale August 26.
