Speaking with InStyle, Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, described how she felt after her breakup with Thompson, who previously won an NBA championship with the Golden State Warriors.

“I’m trying my best,” she said. “I feel like I’ve been put through the washing machine and the dryer with tins, shovels, and a cactus.”

As she continued, Pete, whose career has been on the rise since 2018 and 2019, said that while the split from Thompson was painful, she’s learned that everything happens for a reason.

“What’s meant for you is always going to work out. And if something is constantly making you feel uncomfortable, just on edge all the time, you probably are not supposed to be there,” she said.

Pete didn’t stop there; she emphasized her point further, saying she noticed signs that showed she wasn’t supposed to be with Thompson.

“God will always make you uncomfortable when something is not meant for you. I think I just kept trying to make pieces fit that didn’t belong, trying to fit myself into someone else’s life. I was losing myself a little bit. I am now in the space of finding me again,” she said.

While the details of what led to Pete’s split from Thompson haven’t been revealed yet, she implied in her interview that she faced disrespect from all angles.

“I’m not a person who is in the house 24-7. I’m never going to be that. And whoever dates me is gonna have to just understand, like, she is her own person. She’s her own boss. I cannot be minimized,” she said.

Continuing, the rapper said that she refused to “be behind any man” and said she would have respect from her future partner.

“I’m never gonna take the backseat to anything. So just going forward, I think I’ve just learned this is the type of person that I want to be with, this is what I will tolerate, this is what I won’t tolerate. And if you can’t take that, we just gotta respectfully go our separate ways,” she added.

As she wrapped up, Pete shared that she’s learned a lot about herself since leaving her last relationship and wanted to share it with the world.

“Somebody not seeing your values doesn’t make your value go down,” she said. “People cheating on you, that doesn’t have anything to do with you. You’re not less attractive. You’re not less of a good person. Even though it might feel like that.”

The 31-year-old said she’s realized that “being by yourself” is OK and gives people the chance to fall back in love with themselves. “Like, I ain’t smiled so much in so long. I’m outside twirling in the grass,” she said.

The rapper’s comments about her past with Thompson have gone viral, prompting a slew of social media users to chime in with their opinions.

According to several netizens, they knew Pete’s connection with Thompson wouldn’t last due to their social media activity. “When you really locked in, you want to keep it to yourself because it’s so precious,” someone wrote.

“See, they all get on the internet with happy posts, but when they break up, they hit the internet and tell the truth behind it,” another posted.

Others offered support, though, as one user said it wasn’t a “crime to be extra or do extra for someone you love.” They added, “It’s OK, Meg, you’re good.” A fourth user agreed, writing, “It happens to the best of us, Meg.”
