The chick-flick genre simply wouldn’t be what it is today without Clueless. The totally buggin’ comedy classic paved the way for the best of the teen genre in the 2000s, with films like Mean Girls owing their existence and popularity, in part, to Clueless. A loose retelling of Jane Austen‘s 1815 novel Emma, the story of fashionista Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone) and her romantic journey into the arms of her ex-step-brother, Josh Lucas (Paul Rudd), is the stuff of cinematic legend and remains today one of the best-loved films of its kind.
Last year, the 30th anniversary of the film was celebrated by millions of fans across the world, with a 4K UHD steelbook release proving popular and a special theatrical re-release earning just shy of $100,000. Back in 1995, the film’s original release was much more successful, with a $13.7 million production budget turned into a global haul of $58 million. The film opened in second place in the domestic ranks, falling less than $2 million short of the box office chart-topper Apollo 13.
The film is a favorite of many, including some of Hollywood’s biggest names. The iconic Nicole Kidman herself even named Clueless as one of her four favorite movies when interviewed by Letterboxd, with the film joining The Piano Teacher, The Piano, and A Woman Under the Influence in her list. But if it is one of your favorites, then you’ll have to hurry for your next re-watch, as Clueless is officially leaving the Netflix catalog on October 1, 2026.

Gi-hun is not the strongest player in Squid Game, or the cleverest. He is the one who

You have the same instinct. You notice who is struggling and you stay with them, long
after anybody would blame you for leaving.
He is a flawed friend, and that is part of why it lands. He lets people down, then comes
back and tries again, which is more than most manage.
He would give you his last chance and never once mention that he had done it.

‘Clueless’ Is Coming Back
It’s been a roller coaster for Clueless fans in recent months. Set 30 years after the original 1995 film, a sequel series to the chick-flick classic was in the works at Peacock before it was revealed that the streamer had dropped the project. Thankfully, Paramount swooped in to save the day, with it now revealed that the sequel series is eyeing a Los Angeles production starting next year. Silverstone will reprise her role as Cher Horowitz in the miniseries, now the mother of her own teenager. The script will be penned by Josh Schwartz (The O.C.), Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl), and Jordan Weiss (Dollface).
