New Details Revealed About Eric Dane’s Posthumous Memoir
New details about late Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane’s posthumous memoir have been revealed by his publisher, Maria Shriver.
“I was honored Eric Dane chose my publishing imprint, @openfieldbooks, to publish his memoir, My Book of Days,” Shriver, 70, wrote via Instagram on Thursday, March 5. “He told me he wanted his family to know how much he loved them, and he wanted to leave them a story they could be proud of.”
Shriver confirmed that Dane was writing My Book of Days “right up to the end.” Dane died at age 53 on February 19, 2026, from respiratory failure with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) as an underlying cause. (Per the Mayo Clinic, ALS is a progressive “nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord” and causes a loss of muscle control.)
“In keeping with Eric’s wishes, [My Book of Days] will be published on November 3, 2026,” Shriver confirmed.
In December 2025, Dane announced he was working on a memoir to explore his iconic TV roles in Grey’s Anatomy, Charmed and Euphoria, in addition to addressing his diagnosis with ALS.
“I wake up every morning, and I’m immediately reminded that this is real — this illness, this challenge and that’s exactly why I’m writing this book,” Dane said at the time. “I want to capture the moments that shaped me — the beautiful days, the hard ones, the ones I never took for granted — so that if nothing else, people who read it will remember what it means to live with heart. If sharing this helps someone find meaning in their own days, then my story is worth telling.”
Shriver added, “Eric wants to give his daughters and family something to be proud of, and this book will not only make them proud, but it will also help people understand what ALS is and isn’t, what happens to someone when they get it and how we can all be compassionate partners to people suffering with neurological conditions such as this.”
Shriver revealed via her Sunday Paper newsletter in February that she was supposed to meet with Dane days before his death.

“[Eric] wrote [this book] so that his family had something to be proud of,” she explained at the time. “Eric and I were scheduled to have lunch two weeks ago, but he wasn’t feeling well that morning, so we rescheduled for next week. His passing is another powerful reminder that today is all any of us have. Next week isn’t guaranteed.”
The journalist credited Dane with changing many lives for the better when he “bravely shared his ALS diagnosis” in April 2025.
“He advocated for increased research and showed up in every way he could to focus our attention on this devastating neurological disease,” Shriver wrote on February 22, 2026. “My team at The Open Field was honored when Eric chose our imprint to publish his memoir. He told me he wanted to write his book to share his story with the world.”
Dane was mourned by many of his Hollywood colleagues when his family announced his death in February. (Dane shared two daughters, Billie Beatrice Dane and Georgia Geraldine Dane, with his wife, Rebecca Gayheart.)

“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” a family statement to Us Weekly read. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”
The statement continued, “Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”

John Wayne is the definitive Western movie star, and probably still the actor who is most closely associated with the genre. That’s not to discount other actors from the Golden Age of Hollywood, such as Gregory Peck or Burt Lancaster, who also played many gunslingers, sheriffs, and cowboys; Clint Eastwood is also responsible for creating the modern “spaghetti Western” craze with his performance in “The Man With No Name” trilogy and the many Westerns he directed.
However, Wayne is synonymous with what a Western character feels like because of the groundbreaking work he did with director John Ford, with whom he formed one of the greatest actor-director partnerships in the history of cinema. Although he’s a more versatile actor than he is often given credit for, “The Duke” will forever be known as cinema’s greatest frontiersman. Here are the ten greatest John Wayne westerns, ranked.

‘Red River’ (1948)
Red River is one of the darkest Westerns that Wayne ever starred in because he was playing a more villainous character in a much bleaker story. As was the case with many of the films that he made with director Howard Hawks, Red River offered a more authentic depiction of the issues that arose during western expansion, and specifically the relationships between those who chose to live the lonely lives of cowboys.
Red River is a visual achievement first and foremost that features some of the most luscious cinematography of the ‘40s, but the film is best remembered for its famous ending, which saw Wayne going toe-to-toe with Montogmery Clift in a fiery confrontation. Although he is sometimes accused of always playing the same character in every movie, Wayne showed in the concluding moments of Red River that he had the ability to transform and subvert his persona.

‘True Grit’ (1969)
True Grit has what Wayne considered to be the single best performance of his career, and is also notably the film that finally earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor. Although he had previously been recognized with nominations for Best Actor for Sands of Iowa Jima and for Best Picture for The Alamo (which he both produced and directed), but True Grit finally gave the Oscars the opportunity to celebrate one of the most famous stars of all-time with a prize given to him by his peers.
True Girt was a perfect role for the end of Wayne’s career because Rooster Cogburn is an older, grizzled character who has come to regret some of the choices in his life. As emotional as the film’s ending was, True Grit also features a healthy amount of humor that showed Wayne’s comedic sensibilities.

‘The Shootist’ (1976)
The Shootist was the last film that Wayne ever made and remains one of his most underrated performances. Although it was the story of a grizzled, older gunslinger returning to his old line of work, The Shootist was much darker than True Grit; the film was directed by Don Siegel, a brilliant filmmaker who also helmed the first installment in the Dirty Harry franchise.
Wayne has great chemistry in The Shootist with a young Ron Howard, who plays a young man who is taken under the protagonist’s wing and taught to avoid the path of violence that had become so destructive for him. The film also featured a cameo from James Stewart as a doctor who attends to the wounds of Wayne’s character; it was a heartfelt way of paying tribute to the many films that the two men had starred in together, and because they developed a friendship in real life.

‘Stagecoach’ (1939)
Stagecoach is the film that started it all for Wayne because it was the first film he made with Ford and is considered to be the first “modern” Western. The now iconic scene in which Wayne emerges as “The Frisco Kid” for the first time set the template for how to characterize a movie hero, and has served as an inspiration for such adventure films as Raiders of the Lost Ark and Big Trouble in Little China.
Stagecoach was ahead of its time in exploring how the Wild West drew in characters of different social classes, and what that meant for America during a checkered period in the nation’s history. It’s also one of the few action films from the era that holds up just as well today, as Ford’s techniques for creating suspense have stood the test of time.

‘3 Godfathers’ (1948)
3 Godfathers is one of Wayne’s most heartfelt and moving films, and it also doubles as a great Christmas classic. Loosely inspired by the story of the three wise men from the Bible, 3 Godfathers tells the story of three cowboys who become tasked with protecting the infant child of a woman who dies during childbirth.
3 Godfathers showed why Ford’s touch as a director was unparalleled, as he was able to tell a powerful story of faith, redemption, and harmony that didn’t feel saccharine. While it’s a film that is sentimental in a good way, 3 Godfathers still has the rip-roaring action that one would expect from one of Wayne’s pictures; while at the time it didn’t get the same awards traction as some of Ford’s other films, 3 Godfathers has aged well because of how well-rounded of an ensemble it has.

‘El Dorado’ (1966)
El Dorado is quite simply one of the coolest movies ever made because Howard Hawks was interested in making a “hangout” story that wasn’t as concerned with plot. Of all the co-stars that Wayne has had in his various films over the years, Robert Mitchum is perhaps the only one who could match him in terms of gravity and pure charisma. However, El Dorado also featured a breakthrough performance from a young James Caan six years before he would become renowned for his role as Sonny Corleone in The Godfather.
El Dorado was a decidedly old-fashioned Western that came out in an era in which revisionist and spaghetti films were beginning to take a hold of the genre, which made its traditionalist perspective feel like such a breath of fresh air in comparison. It also may, line for line, be the most quotable film Wayne has ever been in.

‘Hondo’ (1953)
Hondo was a groundbreaking Western in many ways because of its eye-popping visuals and stylized approach to the genre, as it even earned a select release in 3-D. The film also marked one of the rare occasions in which Wayne had a female co-star who was just as awe-inspiring as he was; Geraldine Page gave such a memorable, feisty performance that she actually earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, an honor that is not often bestowed upon Westerns.
Wayne has the capability to be a compelling romantic lead, but most of his best love stories have been in non-Westerns like The Quiet Man. With Hondo, he was able to merge the two aspects of his career with a unique film that proved there were still ways to innovate with a genre that was just beginning to show its age for the first time in its history.

‘Rio Bravo’ (1959)
Rio Bravo is a bonafide classic that is well-respected among famous directors, as both John Carpenter and Quentin Tarantino count it among their favorite films of all-time. It’s another Western adventure that doubled as a “hangout film” because the most important aspect of Rio Bravo is the undeniable chemistry between Wayne, Dean Martin, and Ricky Nelson.
Rio Bravo was produced in response to High Noon, a film that Wayne and Hawks hated because it depicted the main character played by Gary Cooper as being sensitive and reticent to fulfill his responsibilities as a sheriff. High Noon is a masterpiece in its own right, but Rio Bravo’s depiction of three rugged, brave lawmen who survived against incredible odds was a fun alternative that became a great character study in its own right. Even before the terrific final shootout, Rio Bravo is a dialogue-driven story with the intimacy of a stage production.

‘The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance’ (1962)
The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance was a powerful response to the end of the Western era that reflected on the decline of gunslingers in favor of more traditionalist justice. Wayne starred as a no-nonsense lawman who is tasked with the protection of an idealistic politician, played by Jimmy Stewart, who has been tasked with helping a small town grow to be part of the established Union.
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance examined why Western mythology had become engrained as part of American culture, and showed why these ideals are still clung on to by people who have abandoned the ways of the Wild West. The film’s shocking plot twist, and the iconic final line that accompanies it, were a thoughtful challenge to the history of Westerns that served as a great summation of the work that Wayne and Ford did together.

‘The Searchers’ (1956)
The Searchers is one of the greatest films ever made and features what is likely Wayne’s best character in Major Ethan Edwards, a former member of the Confederate Army that begins a ruthless search for the Native American tribe that kidnapped his niece (Natalie Wood). Although it starts off as a rip-roaring adventure with very clear morals, The Searchers becomes a dark character study because Ethan is an obsessive, dangerous psychopath who has used the disappearance of someone he cares about as an excuse to fulfill his violent fantasies of xenophobic conquest.
The Searchers was a condemnation of racism and manifest destiny that utilized Wayne’s star power to make a searing statement about how the cycle of violence continues. While the film is admired for its gorgeous visuals (including one of the best closing shots of all-time), it was Wayne’s performance that solidified its place in cinematic history.

Britney Spears’ first husband Jason Alexander is coming to her defense in the wake of her DUI arrest.
Posting via his Instagram account on Thursday, March 5, Alexander who was married to Spears, 44, for 55 hours in January 2004, urged everyone to “slow down” when discussing the pop star’s most recent run-in with the law.
“If reports are accurate that she blew a .06, that’s below the legal limit in most states. And if the only substances in her system were legally prescribed medications, that changes the narrative completely,” Alexander, 44, wrote.
He continued, “At most, what’s being discussed right now could potentially amount to minor misdemeanor charges — things like reckless driving or simple possession if a substance was found in the car.”

Us Weekly previously confirmed the “Womanizer” singer was arrested for driving under the influence near her home in Ventura County, California.
Spears was taken into police custody on Wednesday, March 4, at 9:28 p.m., according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Office records.
According to 911 dispatch audio obtained by Us, Spears’ Black BMW was allegedly driving “in and out of lanes,” and “speeding,” according to the operator. The operator also noted that the vehicle was seen erratically “braking, swerving and driving with no taillight.” Officers could be heard following the video before pulling it over.

“It’s going to change everything that hugely impacts Bode. He is going to really fight to continue to be on his path to progress and growth that we love to see him on. He has made those good choices — though he still struggles — and winning those struggles and really becoming someone who can continue to be someone Tyler wants to grow up to be,” she said. “Bode is a role model. Look how far we have come.”
She continued: “Eve is going to find her way with these new guys at Three Roc. Sharon is learning even more so how to stand on her own. Ruby — her mother — comes back. There’s a lot of surprises, twists and turns, and drive coming out of that twist that comes at the end of the midseason premiere.”

In a world where the horror genre is surging thanks to visionary names like Jordan Peele, Robert Eggers, Ari Aster, and Zach Cregger, another successful director in the genre often gets forgotten. Johannes Roberts is the man behind The Other Side of the Door, 47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night, and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Over and over again, he has been able to take what seems like a mediocre idea and turn it into something surprisingly good. Primate is no different. Audiences rolled their eyes when the trailer for a movie about a killer chimp came out. Then they saw the movie. Primate, now available to watch on digital, is a terrifying bloodbath with chilling practical effects. One scene in particular shows why it works so well.
‘Primate’s Ben Is Made up of Practical Effects, Not CGI
A movie about a chimp with rabies who goes on a killing spree isn’t exactly the most original idea. Primate is pretty much Cujo, except with a chimpanzee replacing the St. Bernard, and a bunch of teenagers taking over for a mom and her sick son. Still, the premise doesn’t have to be new for it to be effective. Human beings have a complicated relationship with chimpanzees. The name of the species is silly sounding, so what’s to be threatened by? And they’re so much like us that it’s fascinating. They’re all so much like us, however, that it can be deadly if it all goes wrong.
We all remember that horrific real life story of the woman who had her face ripped off by a chimp. Listen to the 911 call, with the primate screaming in the background, and it’ll give you chills. Remember Jordan Peele’s Nope? It was a masterful film about an alien, yet the scariest part by far was the chimp attack scene. A powerful chimp could rip us apart if it wanted. In Primate, that’s what happens. It could still have resulted in a bad movie if not for one crucial decision. Primate doesn’t use a real chimp, and it doesn’t get lazy and go the CGI route. Instead, it’s all practical, with animatronics and actor Miguel Torres Umba in a suit. The audience can see that authenticity. Ben feels real, and because of that, half of the job of scaring us is already done.
‘Primate’ Uses Unnerving Slow Burn Tension in Its Best Kill Scene
Ben is a tragic character. He’s not a pet, but part of the family, the heartbroken chimp whose owner, a linguistics professor, has passed away.Primatearguably doesn’t give us enough of Ben as a normal, loving animal before it all goes bad, but we get enough to feel sorry for the poor guy. The opening scene, shown mid-story, where he rips off the face of veterinarian Doug Lambert (Rob Delaney), is disgustingly awesome. That kind of intensity wouldn’t have worked for the full runtime, though. Instead, the viewer meets Ben and sees what he’s capable of before going backwards to the start.
Primate is a slow-burning nightmare, with Ben gradually turning bad as the rabies takes over his body. That technique is used to perfection in the movie’s best kill. Deep in the second act, after Ben has already slaughtered several people, Drew (Charlie Mann) and Brad (Tienne Simon) arrive at the house looking for their friends. They can’t find anyone, so Drew hangs out on one of the girls’ beds. He’s the dumb, oblivious male trope, whereas the audience, like in the beats of a slasher, knows the killer is in the house watching and waiting.
6 Cheesy Monkey Movies To Watch Before ‘Primate’
The definitive movies where there’s no monkeying around.
Ben is revealed by suddenly appearing at Drew’s bedside, with only a thin curtain between them. Drew jumps, immediately knowing something wrong, yet trying to joke his way out of the situation. The decision could be made to have Ben pounce immediately, like he’s done already. Instead, we get to see just how smart he is. Ben plays with Drew in the cruelest way, pushing his face against the curtain, letting his features be exposed bit by bit in an excruciatingly slow moment. When Ben is finally shown, no curtain in his way, he could again pounce at any second. Instead, he pins Drew’s arms down, showing this human that he can not match him. He waits, not out of hesitation, but almost as if he’s enjoying the fear coming off of his victim. Then it happens.
‘Primate’ Doesn’t Hold Back on the Gore
Primate has plenty of gore without overdoing it Terrifier style. Johannes Roberts is giving his audience a bloody, gooey movie as he focuses on keeping the death scenes realistic. Throw in geysers of blood and the tension is lost. The vet gets his face ripped off. Another character is scalped. None of that compares with what he does to Drew.
When Ben puts his fingers in Drew’s mouth and starts to pull down, any horror fan knows what’s coming next. Scenes like this have been done before. Or have they? Ben does indeed yank down on Drew’s jaw, tearing the flesh from his face as the lower half of his skull comes off completely. In an interview with Collider, director Johannes Roberts called Ben “the Freddy Krueger of chimps.” It’s not a crazy comparison. When Ben holds up Drew’s jaw and moves it around as he does his little chimp laugh, he becomes Freddy. This chimp is highly intelligent. Yeah, he’s strong as hell, and he takes his time, but being so much like us that he can make a joke as he kills a man is the scariest moment of all. You never saw Cujo do that.

Cruz Beckham has admitted he wants to repair the relationship with his older brother Brooklyn Beckham amid their family’s ongoing feud.
In video footage published by TMZ and HELLO! on Thursday, March 5, Cruz was approached by a reporter who asked the youngest Beckham brother if he had any well wishes for his older sibling who turned 27 on Wednesday, March 4.
Looking at the camera, Cruz, 20, replied, “Happy birthday.”
Although Cruz ignored further questions about Brooklyn, including whether he had spoken to his brother recently, he gave a small insight into his hopes for their relationship moving forward.

Cruz previously extended the olive branch to Brooklyn on his birthday. Posting via his Instagram Story, Cruz shared a photo of himself as a baby in the arms of his brother as a child. “I love you,” Cruz wrote alongside the childhood snap.
David and Victoria Beckham also shared touching Instagram posts to send well wishes to their estranged son on his special day. (As well as Cruz and Brooklyn, David and Victoria also share Romeo, 23, and Harper, 14.)
“Happy Birthday Bust,” David, 50, wrote alongside a throwback image of the pair, referring to his nickname for Brooklyn. “Love you x.”

For her part, Victoria shared two posts featuring photos of Brooklyn as a child to celebrate her son’s birthday.
“Happy birthday Brooklyn, we love you so much,” the fashion designer, 51, wrote alongside an old photo of herself and David with Brooklyn in the pool.
In the second post which showed herself holding Brooklyn as a baby, Victoria added, “Happy 27th birthday Brooklyn, I love you so much.”
Brooklyn did not publicly acknowledge his family’s Instagram posts about him, but was seen celebrating with his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham.

Nicola, 31, shared a video via her Instagram of Brooklyn blowing out candles on a box of donuts.
“Happy birthday baby… I hope all your dreams and wishes come true!” she gushed. “You light up every room you walk into and anyone who knows you loves you… you’re the most special human and I love being your wife. I love you I love you I love you.”
The birthday tributes come after Brooklyn slammed his family in a scathing social media post earlier this year.
“I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private,” Brooklyn wrote on January 19. “Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.”
In the lengthy post, Brooklyn added, “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes put on a loved-up display in a rare joint TV appearance.
Appearing on the Thursday, March 5, episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Gosling, 45, surprised his wife for her 52nd birthday.
Gosling was on the late night talk show to promote his upcoming film, Project Hail Mary, in which he plays a teacher, and he used the opportunity to make a grand romantic gesture.
“It is Eva’s birthday today. She is here,” Gosling told the audience, which was full of teachers. “You have no idea how much she loves teachers. Loves you so much. She has her hall monitor sash still from when she was a kid. She hangs it proudly in the house.”
He then asked the crowd, “If I get her, would you sing ‘Happy birthday’ to her?” The audience enthusiastically agreed to the request.
After a producer grabbed Mendes from backstage and guided her towards the stage, Gosling left his seat next to host Fallon to approach his wife. The actor held Mendes’ hand as he led her in front of the audience for her surprise.
As part of the elaborate surprise, the North Bergen High School Marching Band began playing “Happy Birthday” while a huge banner read, “Happy Birthday Eva.”
The couple packed on the PDA during the cute moment, with a clearly delighted Mendes seen gripping on to Gosling’s arm. She then tenderly grabbed her husband’s face and leaned in to whisper something in his ear and kissed him sweetly on the cheek.

Mendes and Gosling rarely make public appearances together. The last time they were photographed together on a red carpet was 13 years ago at the premiere of their film The Place Beyond The Pines in Toronto, Canada.
The private couple starred together in the movie which was filmed in 2011. After falling in love, they welcomed two daughters, Esmeralda, born in 2014, and Amada, born in 2016.
In 2023, Mendes addressed why she and Gosling have not been pictured at public events in the many years since despite their relationship flourishing.

After Mendes shared a throwback post of herself and Gosling in The Place Beyond The Pines, a follower commented that they were hoping to see Mendes on the red carpet as Gosling promoted his movie Barbie, which was released that year.
“What a cool comment, thank you,” Mendes responded at the time. “But we don’t do those things together.”
She explained, “Like these photos I’ve been posting, I’m only comfortable posting because it’s already out there.”
Mendes also noted that the photos taken of the pair in September 2012 came from the sole time they stepped out together on the red carpet.
“Oh wait — for those who may catch me in a ‘lie’ — we only were on the red carpet together once when promoting this film,” she added in a follow-up comment.
