Michael B. Jordan has earned his second-ever Actor Award for his performance (or performances) in Sinners, which is also his first-ever individual award after Black Panther previously won Best Ensemble Cast. Despite stiff competition from the likes of Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio, Jordan came out on top to win Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role. This certainly bodes well for his chances at the upcoming Academy Awards, which mark his first-ever Oscar nomination for Best Lead Actor.
Despite releasing much earlier in 2025, which typically doesn’t bode well for films hoping to break into awards season, Ryan Coogler‘s smash-hit vampire movie has defied expectations on just about every front, becoming a true cultural phenomenon and an apparent awards season darling. There are many reasons for that, but Michael B. Jordan’s performance as two twin gangsters trying to start a new life for themselves in the supernatural south is certainly a big factor.
Taking place in the height of the Prohibition Era during the ’30s, Sinners primarily follows two gangsters who flee Chicago to open up their own juke joint in their home state of Mississippi. Jordan plays both roles: the stoic, business-focused Smoke and the wily, charismatic Stack, as they each try to round up employees and customers for their ambitious plan. Their club is a resounding success, until a shady Irishman named Remick (Jack O’Connell) arrives on their doorstep asking to be invited in, and it doesn’t take long for the twins to realize he is a creature not of this earth.
What’s Next for Michael B. Jordan?
Now one of the biggest movie stars in the world, Michael B. Jordan has plenty of exciting projects lined up. One of the biggest starring roles Jordan is expected to lead is a reimagining of Miami Vice alongside Austin Butler, directed by Top Gun: Maverick and F1 helmer Joseph Kosinski. However, in addition to starring in new projects, Michael B. Jordan also has plans to return behind the camera as well. After making his directorial debut with Creed III, Jordan is now working on a remake of the classic crime story The Thomas Crown Affair as an actor and director. Also in the works is a reported fourth Creed movie that Jordan is expected to star in and direct, and he is also executive producing The Fourth Wing, which is easily Prime Video’s most anticipated fantasy series.
Sinners is available to stream on HBO Max. Stay tuned to Collider as the updates come in.
