Prince William, Kate Middleton Bring Prince George to Eton
Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton marked a major milestone with their son Prince George as he started the school year at Eton College.
The royal couple were seen dropping off their 13-year-old for his first day at the all-boys school in Windsor, England, on Tuesday, September 8. William, 44, dressed smartly for the occasion, wearing a dark suit and blue tie. George was the spitting image of his father as the trio strolled through the courtyard.
Kate, for her part, looked dazzling in an emerald green dress and beamed with pride on her son’s big day.
Simon Henderson, the school’s headmaster, and provost Sir Nicholas Coleridge were on hand to greet George and his parents.
Henderson reportedly welcomed the new student and told him, “Good luck. Enjoy it.”
William previously attended the boarding school from 1995 to 2000. In a scene mirroring the one captured by photographers on Tuesday, William was dropped off by his father, King Charles III, and late mother Princess Diana on his first day.
William and Kate, 44, have been hands-on parents while raising George and his siblings: Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.

Years before George began his Eton journey, a source exclusively told Us that Kate and William were “open” to sending their son to a boarding school someday.
“They’d never force George to go unless he wants to and they feel it’s right,” the insider told Us in 2021, adding that the decision would be one they made “as a family.”
According to a separate source, William was already preparing George for his future as a royal leader.
“William’s already explained his future role to him, and he loves learning about his family in history classes,” the insider explained. “William tries not to overwhelm him with too much information, but George is aware that there’s a lot more to being king than how the role is portrayed in Disney movies and children’s books.”
More recently, royal historian Marlene Koenig told Us that George is “undoubtedly aware” of what lies ahead for him as second in line to the throne behind his father.
Reflecting on George’s role as a train bearer in grandfather Charles’ coronation in 2023, Koenig added, “The coronation provided the young prince with the knowledge that he, too, would one day be crowned in a coronation ceremony.”

The Western Quentin Tarantino Called “The Best-Directed Movie of All Time” Is Officially a Global Streaming Hit
With Taylor Sheridan having contributed to the rebound of the Western genre, which was thought to have become obsolete over the last few decades, a new generation of audiences can experience the joy of watching classics for the first time. This month presents them with the opportunity of checking out perhaps the greatest movie that belongs to the genre’s sub-category, known as spaghetti Westerns. This term was used exclusively for Westerns produced in Italy; as you’d imagine, they were soupier and saucier compared to the American Westerns of that era. Sergio Leone, who was widely regarded as the greatest spaghetti Western director of them all, made a groundbreaking trilogy starring Clint Eastwood.
The most acclaimed installment of that trilogy is now officially streaming on a vareity of streaming apps, including Prime Video, MGM, and Tubi. The movie was released in 1966, and remains the benchmark for the genre even six decades later. Quentin Tarantino was hugely inspired by it, calling it “the best-directed film of all time” and “the greatest achievement in the history of cinema.” He paid homage to the movie in his own work, going back to his debut feature, Reservoir Dogs. The film also inspired numerous homages across the world, and inspired Stephen King to write his magnum opus, The Dark Tower series.
The Greatest Spaghetti Western Ever Is Just One Click Away
By now you’ve probably guessed that we’re talking about The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Along with For a Few Dollars More and A Fistful of Dollars, it was part of Leone’s landmark Dollars Trilogy. The movie now holds a “Certified Fresh” 97% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the consensus reads, “Arguably the greatest of the spaghetti Westerns, this epic features a compelling story, memorable performances, breathtaking landscapes, and a haunting score.”
The film also features Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef, and has a memorable original score composed by Ennio Morricone. Tarantino, who has famously avoided scores throughout his career, broke the trend when he had Morricone compose the music for his own spaghetti Western-inspired feature, The Hateful Eight.
While The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is streaming for free on Tubi alongside an expansive catalog of free westerns, including A Fistful of Dollars and essential John Wayne features like The Alamo and Red River, the classic Eastwood western is climbing the global streaming charts on MGM, where it’s jumped to number 15.
You can watch The Good, the Bad and the Ugly on a variety of streaming platforms from Tubi to MGM. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on must-see westerns.

Ariana Grande Seals Tour Memories With Rare Ricky Alvarez PDA
Ariana Grande shared a sweet moment with Ricky Alvarez as she wrapped up her tour.
The singer’s “Eternal Sunshine” tour, which began on June 6 at the Oakland Arena in California, saw its last performance on September 1 at the O2 Arena in London. She announced that she would be stepping back from the public eye following the end of her latest tour.
Ariana Grande and Ricky Alvarez seemingly rekindled their romance in recent months during her tour. This comes a decade after their initial breakup, though they remained friends throughout the years.

Grande uploaded a wrap-up video for her tour to social media, featuring clips of her in rehearsals, onstage performances, fans singing along to her songs, and brief, cute interviews with fans outside the arena.
Fans voiced how much they loved her music, how they have been die-hard fans for years, and how much of an inspiration she had been to them. Amidst all these highlights, there was a sweet moment briefly featured in the montage, where the “7 Rings” singer shared a passionate kiss with her boyfriend, Alvarez.
In the black-and-white-themed video, Grande could be seen rehearsing onstage in an empty auditorium. She then took a break to lean down at the edge of the stage, where Alvarez was taking pictures of her, and shared a sweet kiss with him.
“This experience has meant more to me than words can possibly say … “I love you” doesn’t begin to cover it. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart. Yours always, Ariana,” the Instagram post, which has received nearly half a million reactions, was captioned.
Some commenters expressed how much they enjoyed watching Grande on stage and listening to her music, while others swooned over her rekindled romance with Alvarez.
The Singer Altered Her Song Lyrics Amid Renewed Romance
During the “Eternal Sunshine” tour, Grande tweaked the lyrics to her famous song “Thank U, Next,” in which she sings about her various exes. During her final performance at the O2 Arena in London, the Nickelodeon alum performed her 2018 hit but changed the lyrics in the verse that references Alvarez.
The original song features the lyrics, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh.” During her final performance, however, she sang, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / I’m tryna make him my last.”
This was not the first onstage performance where she changed that part of the lyrics to the popular hit. During her June 26 performance at Austin’s Moody Center in Texas, she sang “Wrote some songs about Ricky / I know he’s still got my back.”
Again, during her July 13 show at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center in New York, the iconic singer, known for her four-octave vocal range, changed the line to “Wrote some songs about Ricky / We always find our way back,” as reported by PEOPLE.
Ariana Grande And Ricky Alvarez Got Matching Ink
While sources suggest that the lovebirds are taking things slowly as they rekindle their romance, it is quite apparent they are moving slowly but surely. Last month, Grande flaunted her matching love tattoo shortly after going Instagram official with Alvarez.
Eyes caught the new ink sitting pretty on the “Sam & Cat” star’s clavicle during the recent London stop of her tour. The tattoo features the phrase “I do love you,” which appears to match her boyfriend’s own version of the same words.
As The Blast shared, Alvarez has his own skin art drawn along his left collarbone, though in a different font. In a photo dump post, the singer teased the tattoo design, with the words in quotes appearing in one of the pictures. According to an insider:
“They’re not jumping into anything serious right away, but Ari is happy to have him back in her life.”
The ‘God Is A Woman’ Vocalist Plans To Spend Her Break Basking In Romance
Sources close to the Grammy-winning artist said that, contrary to speculation that she would enter rehab during her time off, Grande plans to spend quality time with her boyfriend instead. “She’ll be spending a lot of time with her family, friends and Ricky,” the source revealed.
The insider stressed that her dedication to her career over the past months had been a stumbling block to spending quality time with her loved ones. They explained that with the “Eternal Sunshine” tour, Grande and the dancer have not been able to spend as much intimate time together as they would have liked in recent months.
The Blast reported that the singer announced she would take “a step back from visibility” amid heightened scrutiny of her appearance and health.
Following the release of her “Petal” music video, many internet users were vocal about their concern that Grande appeared very frail and emaciated, some even suggesting she suffered from an eating disorder.
Ariana Grande Ended Her Tour In Tears

After months of performances across Europe and North America, Grande dropped her mic with an emotional performance and goodbye message to fans. The singer was brought to tears as she wrapped up her final performance, telling the audience how much their support meant to her.
“This has been one of the most beautiful, extraordinary experiences of my life, and I just want to express my gratitude without sobbing completely,” the “positions” singer said as tears clouded her eyes.
The Blast shared that during her speech, she noted that she cherished the connection she built with fans all around on her tour, praising them for their dedicated support. Grande applauded her supporters who showed up in themed outfits and with placards bearing creative, kind words.
I have loved every minute of this with you all, and I just want to make sure I express how grateful I am. Thank you, and I love you so much,” she said before leaving the London stage.
Where will the journey lead for Ariana Grande and Ricky Alvarez?

Ryan Gosling Is Officially Coming For Christopher Nolan’s IMAX Crown
IMAX, the large-size film format invented in Canada in the 1970s, is having a cultural moment right now. Christopher Nolan became the first film-maker to shoot a major feature film entirely in IMAX with The Odyssey, and despite the hassle of lugging the cumbersome IMAX cameras all over the Mediterranean, the gamble paid off in spades. The movie is one of the biggest hits of the year, and the mad scramble for IMAX tickets, especially in the select locations equipped with 70mm film projectors, only heightened the anticipation for the film. Now, one of next year’s most anticipated films is set to come to an IMAX theater near you.
Star Wars: Starfighter is the latest film in the Star Wars saga, but will reportedly be unconnected to the previous films of the franchise, representing a fresh start for the venerable space opera saga’s 50th anniversary. Details about the movie are being kept as top secret as the Death Star plans, but we do know that Ryan Gosling will lead a cast that includes Amy Adams, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, and Flynn Gray.
And now we know that the film will open big — literally. Star Wars: Starfighter will premiere in IMAX theaters worldwide on May 28, 2027, which is the 50th anniversary of the 1977 release of the original Star Wars film. This special super-sized release of the film was shot with IMAX-certified cameras and will be converted to IMAX 70mm film prints for release in a select number of IMAX film locations. Could it challenge The Odyssey‘s IMAX sales records, which have helped propel that film to a worldwide gross of $1.63 billion USD and counting? Only time will tell.
Who Are the Behind-the-Scenes Talents on ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’?
Directing Starfighter is hitmaker Shawn Levy, who’s currently riding high with the successes of Stranger Things and Deadpool and Wolverine; he’s set to re-team with Gosling for the MCU supernatural actioner Ghost Rider. The script is by Jonathan Tropper, a frequent Levy collaborator who also created the hit Apple TV series Your Friends and Neighbors. Shooting the film is Oscar-winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda, who is Joseph Kosinski‘s go-to lenser; the score is by Thomas Newman (1917).
Star Wars: Starfighter will be released in theaters, including IMAX theaters, on May 28, 2027. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.

Lili Reinhart Channels Kate Hudson In Iconic Dress Tribute
Lili Reinhart is keeping up with her self-imposed lore of paying tribute to different rom-com stars to promote her new movie, “The Love Hypothesis.”
Over the weekend, the 29-year-old actress honored Kate Hudson by channeling her iconic character’s look from the 2003 film “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.”
Reinhart recently reflected on a range of topics, including turning 30 soon and her health struggles, saying “it’s been a wild decade” for her.
Lili Reinhart reminded fans of a classic movie moment as she paid tribute to Kate Hudson’s iconic Andie Anderson look in “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.”
The “Riverdale” actress took to Instagram to share a carousel in which she wore a butter-yellow dress as a direct nod to the famous yellow silk gown Hudson wore in the 2003 romantic comedy.
She paired the post with the 2015 remastering of Carly Simon’s classic “You’re So Vain,” which fans would remember from the iconic gala scene where Hudson’s character and Benjamin Barry, played by Matthew McConaughey, famously took over a microphone on stage and aggressively serenaded each other with the original version of the song.
She then quoted the song lyrics in the caption, writing, “You probably think this song is about you,” before adding that she was “paying homage” to Hudson’s character.
Reinhart’s Dress Is A Caché Dupe Of The Original

Reinhart took the photos at a hotel in Brazil as she wraps up the South American press junket for her new film “The Love Hypothesis.”
Her dress is said to be a 2000s Caché dupe of the original, which was made for Hudson by Carolina Herrera and the film’s costume designer, Karen Patch.
Vanity Fair reported that the yellow hue of the original dress was made to match the Isadora diamond necklace Hudson’s character wore to film the scene.
The diamond, which Hudson almost accidentally took home, was reportedly worth $5 million and had its own security guard while she filmed with it.
Lili Reinhart Wants Fans To Feel The Book Come To Life

More tributes are to be expected, as Reinhart’s stylist, Ib Abdel Nasser, revealed that she’ll be honoring a slew of female rom-com stars during press rounds for “The Love Hypothesis.”
“Lili will be paying homage to the leading ladies of the Golden Age of rom-coms and romance films throughout the press tour, and we wanted to start off with something super iconic for Brazil since they’re some of the most passionate and dedicated fans!” he said.
The upcoming film is also an adaptation of a book by Ali Hazelwood, and to bring it to life, Reinhart explained that she sought to evoke much the same feelings readers felt while reading.
“For book-to-screen adaptations, I think what people are really looking for is not a play-by-play of the book, but rather the feeling that the book elicits for the readers,” she previously told ELLE. “People want to feel, when they’re watching your movie, how they felt when they were reading the book. That’s giggling, and kicking their feet, and blushing for the other person, and getting excited to watch two people fall in love. And I think we really did that.”
Reinhart Almost Never Featured In The Adaptation

The book is a contemporary romance novel about an impulsive fake-dating arrangement between a Stanford Ph.D. student and a strict young professor.
In a recent wide-ranging interview with Cosmopolitan, Reinhart revealed she was at a crossroads and almost didn’t agree to feature in the book adaptation after starring in similar projects.
“I was afraid that if I did either a horror movie or a romcom, I was going to be pigeonholed into those two things,” she explained.
However, she eventually agreed after her team convinced her she was wrong.
“I pushed it away,” she said of the upcoming movie. “Then I read it on my way to the Venice Film Festival. It was juicy and fun, and I was like, ‘Okay, I understand why people love this book, the charm it has and the slow burn between these two people who are falling in love.’”
Lili Reinhart Reflects On Her Health Struggles

Over the last couple of years, the “American Sweatshop” actress has left fans sad with her different health struggles, including alopecia, endometriosis, and an interstitial cystitis diagnosis, which has no cure.
However, she had seemingly gone a long period enduring the condition without knowing what was wrong with her.
In an interview with the news outlet, she admitted the last decade has been really difficult for her, especially when it comes to her health.
“I had these underlying issues that I didn’t know about. Now I’ve been diagnosed; I know that I have inflammatory disorders,” she said. “It makes sense that I was super inflamed in my body. My face was a completely different shape. I had ‘moon face,’ and my cortisol was off the charts. I felt so deeply out of control of my own body.”

Remain Official Teaser – Jake Gyllenhaal Stars in M. Night Shyamalan’s New Thriller
A24 has released the first teaser trailer for You Can See Everything, a new documentary from directors Nathan Fielderand Lance Oppenheim centered on convicted Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes.
The project was filmed largely in secret over the course of three years and was finally revealed during a surprise screening at the Telluride Film Festival. The documentary begins just 34 days before Holmes was scheduled to report to federal prison, after she invited a skeptical film crew into her life in an attempt to document her side of the story.
Rather than becoming a traditional documentary about the rise and fall of Theranos, the film reportedly evolves into something far stranger. Fielder and Oppenheim were given extensive access to Holmes, her partner Billy Evans, and their family before her incarceration, with the resulting footage developing into what A24 describes as a three-year journey that increasingly blurs the boundaries between observation, performance and reality.
The newly released teaser gives audiences their first look at the unusual dynamic between Fielder and Holmes, with the two sitting face-to-face as Fielder questions whether Holmes is being genuine with him.
You Can See Everything will be released exclusively in theaters this October through A24.

‘Stargate’ Officially Proves Amazon Made a Huge Mistake by Cancelling Reboot Series
Stargate fans experienced the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat in short order over the past 12 months. Last December, a reboot of the long-dormant science fiction franchise was announced to be in development at Prime Video, with several key staff members from the series’ earlier incarnations on board. Then, earlier this year, that reboot was cancelled, after allegedly being too heavily targeted at Stargate‘s existing fanbase. Now, the streaming success of the franchise is calling the logic of that decision into question.
Stargate began life as a 1994 film of the same name, courtesy of director Roland Emmerich and screenwriter Dean Devlin. It centered around an ancient alien device, the titular Stargate, which was discovered in the sands of Egypt; once excavated and reactivated by the US military, it was used to send a team of soldiers and specialists to a distant world ruled by aliens masquerading as gods. The film was a modest success, and was eventually expanded into a universe of long-running TV series, running for over 350 collective episodes.
Stargate: Atlantis, the second spin-off Stargate TV series, is currently leading the streaming pack from its current home on MGM+. The series, which ran for 100 episodes and 5 seasons between 2004 and 2009, is currently the #1 series on the service. It’s not the only Stargate series in the top ten, either. Stargate Universe, the series that saw a starship hurled billions of light years away from Earth, is coming in at #5, while one space below it is the original “mothership” series, Stargate: SG-1. The franchise has remained largely inert since the cancellation of Universe in 2011, despite several revival attempts; these streaming numbers appear to show that there’s still a fanbase for it out there.
What Is ‘Stargate: Atlantis’ About?
Spinning out of the seventh-season finale and eighth-season premieres of Stargate: SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis centers around the discovery of an Antarctic outpost created by the mysterious alien race known as the Ancients. That outpost turns out to lead to the lost city of Atlantis, which is a fantastical city submerged beneath the oceans of an alien world. A Stargate Command team is sent to secure it, while dealing with refugees from other worlds. One such refugee, who first appeared in the second season, was the warrior Ronon Dex (Jason Momoa).
Stargate: Atlantis is now streaming on MGM+. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.

The Best R-Rated Sci-Fi Thriller of All-Time Officially Returns 25 Years Later
All around us are familiar faces, and 25 years later, those familiar faces may just be finding their way back to us. Some movies stay with you, and while they might not hit with audiences immediately, they just need time. Quarter of a century might well be the case for Richard Kelly’s (Southland Tales) strange mixture of science fiction, psychological thriller, and coming-of-age drama. Now, Frank is putting the rabbit suit back on.
In 1988, Donnie Darko doesn’t get along with his family, teachers or classmates, but he finds a kindred spirit in Gretchen and guidance from a compassionate psychiatrist who believes hypnosis may unlock hidden truths. Meanwhile, Donnie is haunted by Frank, a mysterious giant bunny only he can see. When a jet engine crashes into his bedroom and narrowly misses him, Donnie is drawn into a series of increasingly strange events that seem governed by forces beyond explanation. And now, we can join Donnie once more.
Donnie Darko is officially returning to theaters, 25 years later, via Fathom Entertainment. The three-day engagement begins on October 2, otherwise known as ‘Donnie Darko Day’. The cast is led by Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler) as Donnie alongside Jena Malone (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) as Gretchen Ross, Drew Barrymore (Scream) as Karen Pomeroy, Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Dark Knight) as Elizabeth Darko, Mary McDonnell (Battlestar Galactica) as Rose Darko, Noah Wyle (The Pitt) as Kenneth Monnitoff, Patrick Swayze (Road House) as Jim Cunningham, and Seth Rogen (Superbad) as Ricky Danforth.
Was ‘Donnie Darko’ a Success?
Not initially. Donnie Darko was a box-office disappointment when it was released in 2001, earning only around $7.5 million worldwide against a reported $4.5 million production budget. And in fairness, its prospects weren’t helped by the fact that it featured a plane crash just a few weeks after 9/11. The image of a jet engine crashing into a house made it particularly difficult to market at the time. But it was at home, via DVD and home video, that the movie began to gain traction and it turned Kelly’s debut from an obscure and forgotten release into one of the biggest cult movies of the 2000s, turning Gyllenhaal into a major star. Fathom Entertainment Vice President of Marketing Shannah Miller highlighted that unusual journey while announcing the anniversary release:
“Fathom Entertainment is thrilled to bring back Donnie Darko to theatres this fall for its 25th anniversary. This was not a film that exploded overnight – it found its audience slowly, and then never let go. Twenty-five years later, Donnie Darko is back in a new 4K restoration, with Richard Kelly on hand to talk about why it still resonates so deeply with audiences today.”
Donnie Darko returns to theaters in a new 4K restoration from October 2-4, 2026. Tickets are available now via Fathom Entertainment.

5 Killed In Miami Crash Were Inside A Van
The five people killed when an Amazon cargo jet ran off the runway at Miami International Airport were all inside a van, per the Associated Press. This vehicle was reportedly used to shuttle cleaning crews to planes for cleaning, authorities said.

Details About Victims In Amazon Cargo Jet Crash In Miami
The Amazon cargo jet overran the runway while landing on Sunday (September 6). It slammed into the van on airport property, careened through a fence, and then smashed into an SUV on a city street. Five other people were injured. The pilot and co-pilot have been released from the hospital, Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said Tuesday. Two people remain in critical condition and a third is in stable condition.
Cordero-Stutz said the deceased ranged in age from 47 to 75. Also, the five people killed were all in a van owned by Professional Ocean Service Corp., a company that cleans planes. The company said it wouldn’t comment on the crash out of respect for the families who lost loved ones.
“Our employees are far more than the people who work beside us each day, they are family, and they are deeply loved. Our hearts and prayers are with every employee and every family whose lives have been forever changed,” the company said in a statement Tuesday.
Is The Miami Airport Setup A Problem?
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the crash. One focus will be on the lack of a system to slow and stop speeding jets. Miami is not one of the 120 U.S. airports with lightweight, crushable material at the ends of runways. The Federal Aviation Administration says that material has saved around 500 lives. However, experts said that even without a runway excursion system, Miami’s airport appears to comply with federal rules because it has a 1,000-foot safety buffer at the ends of its runways.
NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy said Monday her agency’s goal is to prevent tragedies, but runway excursions continue to happen even after the board has suggested installing the systems in the past.
“Our recommendations must be implemented or we’re going to be here again,” she said at a Monday news conference.’
The NTSB said the plane barreled roughly 1,300 feet (396 meters) past the end of the runway. Homendy called the scene “utter devastation,” with pieces of the vehicles, air bags, destroyed navigational equipment and fencing along the plane’s route. She said she had to be careful because jet fuel was still all around 24 hours after the crash.

What Else To Know About The Crash
The Amazon jet was landing after a two-hour flight from Puerto Rico as storms brewed around the Miami airport. Strong winds over 25 knots were reported Saturday afternoon. Experts who viewed the video of the landing said it appears that a strong tailwind propelled the plane far down the runway past the point where it was supposed to land. The plane remained airborne without flaring the nose to force the wheels down.
It is not immediately clear why the pilot didn’t abort landing and go around to try again. Air traffic controllers also had not changed the approach to the runway to allow the plane to land into a headwind. Airports routinely change the direction planes land on a runway when the winds shift.
Additionally, the flight had been operated by 21 Air, a cargo carrier based in North Carolina. The 32-year-old Boeing 767 was originally built to carry passengers and flew for several airlines in foreign countries for more than two decades. Then, it was converted to a cargo plane in 2015, according to flight-tracking site Flightradar24.

Doomsday’ Star’s New Globe-Trotting Fantasy Adventure Officially Debuts First Trailer [Exclusive]
Less than four months remain until Doomsday falls upon the MCU and unites heroes across generations to face Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Among the 20th Century Fox X-Men who have been brought out of retirement for the latest Avengers film is prolific The Traitors host Alan Cumming, who put away his wardrobe of fabulous outfits in exchange for the blue visage of Nightcrawler for the occasion, alongside former co-stars Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, and Kelsey Grammer. It was an experience he’d previously described as “healing” after the nightmarish production that was X2, and now, the wait is nearly over to see him back in action over 20 years later. Before that, though, he’s playing the villain for a much different globe-spanning adventure.
On October 9, Viva Kids will bring Treasure Trekkers to theaters for the first time with a new feature-length film based on the show and J.S. Friedman‘s beloved children’s book seriesthat inspired it, Maurice’s Valises. It’ll aim to capture the same sense of discovery and friendship that have made the stories of young explorers traveling the world so compelling to audiences for years. At the center of the film is Mip, a 12-year-old adopted monkey navigating a world of cats and rodents until he finds a magical map to Empathra in his family home. Upon touching it, he’s teleported to the new land and begins exploring in search of his origins, all while trying to restore compassion among its people. Collider can exclusively share the official trailer that teases the twists and turns of the perilous journey, including the friends he makes along the way, like Mac and Mo, and the dangers ahead of him.
The footage opens with Mip experiencing the trials of middle school, where, as a marmoset, he’s picked on by just about everyone. Adopted by a cat, he’s uncertain of his place in the world, which makes the map to Empathra so enticing. Upon being whisked away, meeting Mac and Mo, and becoming part of the Treasure Trekkers with them, he finally has a chance to learn his origin story. Unfortunately, he needs to keep a low profile lest he be caught by Cumming’s vain, flamboyant King Clarence, who appears to have some connection with the monkey’s lineage and wants to keep the truth under wraps. To learn where Mip really came from, the Trekkers traverse mountains, temples, waterfalls, and jungles, connecting with fellow monkeys, dodging danger at seemingly every turn, and delivering lighthearted fun on a grand scale.
‘Treasure Trekkers’ Assembles a Cast of Beloved Voice-Acting Veterans
Writer-director Kevin Munroe took the wheel for the Treasure Trekkers movie, bringing a wealth of experience from the 2007 TMNT and the 2016 video game adaptation, Ratchet & Clank. This marks his first feature credit in eight years, after previously co-directing Troll: The Tale of a Tail. For his return to the big screen, he got to work with a wealth of exciting names beyond Cumming. The main trio of Mip, Mo, and Mac are voiced by Teen Titans Go! co-stars Greg Cipes and Tara Strong, alongside Meredith Bull. Also prominently featured are 30 Rock fan-favorite Jack McBrayer and fellow voice-acting legend John DiMaggio, best known as Futurama‘s Bender and Adventure Time‘s Jake the Dog.
The Treasure Trekkers movie premieres in theaters on October 9. Check out the exclusive trailer in the player above.
