A&E’s two part docuseries Scott Peterson: The New Evidence breaks down mistakes made by the Modesto Police Department when they investigated pregnant Laci Peterson’s disappearance. In part 1, legal expert Chris Pixley broke down how the Los Angeles Innocence Project’s arguments that police always believed Laci’s husband, Scott Peterson, was guilty for the murder. Part 2 continued to look into how police may have botched the investigation, leading to Scott being arrested and found guilty of Laci and their unborn son Conner’s death.

Inside the Burglary That Took Place When Laci Peterson Went Missing
The LAIP has theorized that the burglary that took place at the home of Laci and Scott’s neighbors, the Medinas’, was linked to her death.
Steven Todd and Donald Pearce burglarized the Medinas’ home after the family left to go out of town at 10:30 a.m. on December 24, 2002. Meanwhile, Scott left to go on a boat ride at 10:08 a.m.
The exact date of the robbery has never been confirmed, but the state claimed it took place on December 26, 2002.

“I think what happened was the Modesto police changed the date of the burglary because it certainly would’ve undercut their theory on Scott,” Scott’s former defense attorney, Mark Geragos, said. “Because if it has happened on the 24th, it’s the definition of reasonable doubt.”
Pixley said that the “LAIP had found nine new witnesses only identified by their initials” who connected Laci’s “disappearance to the burglars.” He said that the findings “only further reinforces the fact that the police should’ve been investigating the burglary as related to Laci’s disappearance.”
Former Detective Ninette Toosbuy said that it was “investigatively negligent” for officers to not look into the robbery. “I believe that the reason they were dismissive or ignored the Medina burglary is they felt, at that time, reasonably sure that they knew what had happened,” Toosbuy said of police.
Pixley also shared that two neighbors reported they believed their homes were being scoped out for burglaries on December 23, making it likely they would have robbed the home the following day.
Witnesses Claimed They Saw Laci Peterson With the Burglars
The LAIP believes that Laci confronted the burglars when she saw the robbery happening and they killed her. Additionally, seven witnesses saw the suspicious van driven by the burglars on the day that she disappeared, but police never investigated it. One witness recalled seeing a pregnant woman being pushed into the van by a man who appeared homeless.
An emotional moment in the docuseries took place when Pixley called eyewitness Diane Jackson, who told Pixley she called police about seeing the van outside of the Medinas’ home. She added that she believes Scott didn’t commit the murder because it’s extremely unlikely that he killed Laci when the burglary was happening at the same time.
Police Found Burning Van 1 Day After Laci Peterson’s Disappearance
A burning van was found by police in an alleyway a mile and a half from the Petersons’ home on Christmas day in 2002.
“That van fire was investigated and ultimately that investigation was closed without [being connected] in any way to the Peterson case,” Pixley said. “The Los Angeles Innocence Project is arguing that the van fire should’ve been viewed as being potentially related to Laci Peterson’s disappearance. That it should’ve been viewed as related or potentially related to the Medina burglary and that the van fire, along with the Medina burglary, should have been investigated as part of Laci Peterson’s missing person case but was not.”
A stain was found on a mattress in the van, which the state tested and claimed it wasn’t blood. However, one test found potential traces of male DNA and could not rule out the presence of female DNA.

Scent Dogs Were Used to Track Laci Peterson’s Scent During the Investigation
Scent dogs were used to search the area near where Laci disappeared, and police claimed that a dog picked up her scent in the Airport District.
Pixley spoke to forensic evidence expert Maneek Sinha, who said she believes there was potential cross contamination when the dogs were trying to find Laci. One handler accidentally gave a dog one of Scott’s slippers instead of Laci’s, which could have confused the dog.
Sinha added that “there are a number of wrong convictions based on dog scent evidence” and that “jurors view dog scent evidence the same way they view other evidence.”
Despite potentially not being 100 percent correct, Pixley said the dog scent evidence was some of the only forensic evidence presented by prosecutors during the trial.
Police Allegedly ‘Destroyed’ Evidence in Laci Peterson’s Case
The LAIP believes that police “suppressed and destroyed evidence” during the investigation, specifically when it came to the evidence from the Medina burglary.
Toosbuy noted that the evidence was destroyed as the investigation into Laci’s disappearance continued, and she called “the timing of the destruction suspicious.”
Another example of police not following through with a lead was when corrections officer Xavier Aponte called in a tip that an inmate was discussing the burglary in 2003.

“The information he had connected the Laci Peterson case with the Medina burglary. At the correctional facility, dorm officers moderated and recorded all the inmate phone calls. One of the officers brought a recording of the call to the attention of Lt. Aponte, who immediately called the tip line to report it,” Pixley said. “The recording was of a conversation between inmate Shawn Tenbrink and his brother Adam Tenbrink. Both of whom were associated with the airport district and the Medina burglars.”
While discussing Laci, Adam said he “heard that Laci had seen Steven Todd and his coconspirators committing the burglary and they made some sort of verbal threat to Laci.”
The defense did not have any of this information during the trial, and police kept no record of Aponte’s report.
Inside the Timing of Conner Peterson’s Death
Dr. Greggory DeVore testified during the trial that Conner died on the same day that Laci went missing based on studies from 1984. However, the LAIP doctor used more recent studies to determine that Conner likely died some time between December 28, 2002, and January 5, 2003.
Pixley said that the new discovery “completely contradicts the state’s timeline.”
“If Conner Peterson died at any point after December 24, Scott Peterson is not involved in that death because from that date forward, he was under constant surveillance, he was the suspect in the case and he was being followed by the media,” Pixley said.
The LAIP Is Critical of the District Attorney’s Office
Not only does the LAIP question how Modesto police handled the investigation, but the group is also critical of the DA’s office.
“They’re arguing the prosecutor’s office in Stanislaus County has engaged in a pattern of conduct where they have routinely abused the constitutional rights of the defendants. And just last year, a landmark settlement caused their conduct into question,” Pixley said.
The docuseries explained that Frank Carson sued Stanislaus County after well-known meth addict Korey Kauffman stole items from his property. Kauffman later went missing, and authorities went after Carson.

“Frank Carson was quite controversial to the DA’s office. He was a very aggressive defense attorney. He was well-known and much disliked by all law enforcement people, but particularly the DA’s office and by the DA herself,” Carson’s attorney Gary Gwilliam said of Birgit Fladager, who was also involved in Scott’s case.
Carson went to jail after he was accused of masterminding the murder plot despite no forensic evidence tying him to the case. The case eventually went to trial in 2019 and he was found not guilty of all charges.
“This was a DA that I believe was corrupt,” Gwiliam said.
Following Carson’s arrest, his legal team filed a massive civil rights and malicious prosecution lawsuit against Stanislaus County. However, Carson died before he could get justice and he ultimately won $22.5 million in settlement payout.
“If a DA’s willing to prosecute an attorney that they dislike, then it’s not much of a step to say that they will happily prosecute someone like Scott Peterson,” Pixley said.
Inside Laci Peterson’s Final Day
Laci’s last known contact was during a phone call with her mother on the night of December 23, 2002.
“It’s plausible to believe that Laci was with the dog sometime immediately prior to 10:18 a.m. Karen Servas found Scott and Laci’s dog wandering in the street with its leash on around 10:18 and she placed the dog behind the gate of their home,” Pixley recapped. “At some point, Laci Peterson took her dog for a walk. There are 15 eyewitnesses that see Laci walking her dog after the time Scott Peterson has left for the Berkeley Marina.”

Pixley went on to reiterate the version of events of what the LAIP thinks is what happened.
“Laci returns home, sees a suspicious van across the street and goes over to see what’s going on. Laci Peterson confronted career criminals who are engaged in the burglary of her neighbors’ home, whether it was intentional, whether it was an accident that brought harm to her,” he said. “If you’re committing a burglary that is a felony, you know that that’s a crime that’s gonna put you in prison and some nosy neighbor comes along and you can’t shut her up, you may very well trundle her into the back of your van to get her out of the way. Now that you’re ready to leave the crime scene and she’s seen you, what do we do with this nosy, loud lady?”

Even though he’s about to begin a new partnership with NBCUniversal, Taylor Sheridan remains the MVP of Paramount with his roster of popular shows. He went on to write and direct the third in this spiritually connected trilogy of neo-Western films, Wind River, and then pivoted to television with his magnum opus, Yellowstone. The Yellowstone franchise’s two latest installments, Marshals and Dutton Ranch, emerged as massive hits in their own right this year, while Sheridan continues to work on new seasons of his other titles. In addition to Yellowstone and its two prequels, 1883 and 1923, Sheridan has created several popular shows for Paramount+. The crime dramas Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown have been renewed for fourth and fifth seasons, respectively. Meanwhile, the neo-Western hit Landman has been renewed for a third installment, too. Sheridan’s most recent Paramount+ show, The Madison, received a Season 2 order even before the first batch of episodes premiered. However, the first returning series on Sheridan’s slate is a spy thriller headlined by the Oscar-winning Zoe Saldaña.
Taylor Sheridan’s Spy Thriller Will Face Off Against ‘The Agency’ on Paramount+
We’re talking, of course, about Lioness. The show premiered in 2023 and returned with a second season in 2024. The third season will premiere on August 2, and will offer fresh competition on Paramount+ to the streamer’s other spy title, The Agency. That show, headlined by Michael Fassbender, returned with a second season in June. Lioness also features Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman, Michael Kelly and LaMonica Garrett in supporting roles. The show received mixed-to-positive reviews, with the first season sitting at a 54% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes and the second season displaying a remarkable improvement with a 90% score. Julianne Moore has one of the most dangerous gifts an actor can have. Moore can make emotional exposure feel intelligent. Her characters are rarely simple victims, villains, mothers, lovers, or wives. There is usually something unstable under the surface, something private leaking into public life, and Moore knows exactly how to let that tension show without flattening the person into one clean idea.
That is why this list gets so stacked so fast. Moore fits each world differently, but the charge is always the same. She makes people readable and mysterious at once, which is why her best films keep gaining power the more you sit with them. Other than these six though, Moore has about 70 film credits to her name but these ones win for me.

‘The Big Lebowski’ (1998)
The Big Lebowski is usually discussed through the Dude (Jeff Bridges), Walter Sobchak (John Goodman), bowling, ransom confusion, nihilists, and the Coens turning detective fiction into a stoned maze. Then Maude Lebowski (Julianne Moore) drops into the movie and changes the flavor of the whole thing. Moore takes a character who could have been a one-joke eccentric artist and makes her one of the smartest people in the room. Maude understands money, sex, image, inheritance, and the absurd male panic swirling around Bunny Lebowski (Tara Reid)’s disappearance.
What makes Moore so funny here is the absolute seriousness of Maude’s self-presentation. The flying harness, the art-world language, the clipped delivery, the refusal to treat the Dude’s confusion as important; all of it feels ridiculous and completely controlled. She wants a child, wants no romantic mess, and sees the Dude as useful in a way that somehow becomes both cold and hilarious. The movie’s chaos keeps pretending to be masculine, but Maude reads the situation cleaner than almost anyone.

‘May December’ (2023)
May December is brutal because it understands how people turn scandal into a story they can survive. Gracie Atherton-Yoo (Julianne Moore) lives with Joe Yoo (Charles Melton), the man she began abusing when he was thirteen, and the film does something very uncomfortable with that history. It keeps the domestic surface calm enough to show how denial becomes routine. The house, the cakes, the kids, the polite conversations, the neighbors, the smiles; everything has been arranged around a lie that everyone knows and still steps around.
Moore’s Gracie is terrifying in ordinary ways. She can sound fragile, sweet, childish, wounded, maternal, and manipulative within the same conversation. Elizabeth Berry (Natalie Portman) arrives to study her for a movie role, and that turns the whole film into a sick mirror game about performance. Gracie has spent years acting as if her version of events is reality. Elizabeth watches, copies, judges, steals, and exposes the rot without becoming morally clean herself. Moore makes Gracie horrifying without turning her into a monster costume. That restraint is what makes the film sting and one of her best.

‘Children of Men’ (2006)
Children of Men throws viewers into 2027, where human infertility has pushed the world into despair, authoritarian violence, refugee cages, and dead-end survival. Julian (Julianne Moore) is not in the movie for long, but her absence haunts the whole story. She leads the Fishes, a resistance group fighting inside a collapsing Britain, and she pulls Theo Faron (Clive Owen) back into action through a mission involving Kee (Clare-Hope Ashitey), the first pregnant woman in eighteen years.
Julian matters because the movie needs history before it can have hope. She and Theo once had a child, Dylan, and that loss still sits between them. Their car scene has that rare lived-in ache where jokes, resentment, memory, and old love all pass through the same few minutes. Then the ambush hits, and the film rips away the possibility of repair. Children of Men is a masterpiece of chaos and motion, but Julian’s character is the wound that makes the movement mean something and Moore plays it well.

‘Magnolia’ (1999)
Linda Partridge (Julianne Moore) could have been swallowed by Magnolia’s enormous ensemble. Paul Thomas Anderson has dying fathers, damaged children, quiz-show ghosts, cops, addicts, gurus, regret, coincidence, and biblical weather all fighting for space. Moore cuts through the noise by making Linda’s guilt feel almost unbearable to watch. She married Earl Partridge (Jason Robards) for money, then somehow ended up loving him near the end of his life, and now that love has arrived too late to feel clean.
Linda’s pharmacy breakdown, not asking for sympathy in some neat way, being furious at the pharmacist, at the prescription, at the judgment she hears under every question, and really at herself for needing mercy after living so selfishly — the complete performance is huge, messy, profane, and spiritually naked. That is exactly what Magnolia needed.

‘Far from Heaven’ (2002)
Far from Heaven uses the visual language of 1950s melodrama, but the feelings underneath are savage. Cathy Whitaker (Julianne Moore) has the perfect Hartford home, the successful husband, the polite parties, the beautiful clothes, and the social role everyone around her knows how to read. Then she discovers Frank Whitaker (Dennis Quaid)’s hidden sexuality and forms a forbidden connection with Raymond Deagan (Dennis Haysbert), a Black gardener, and the world around her starts showing its real face.
Moore’s Cathy is heartbreaking because she has been trained to turn suffering into manners. She smiles when she is humiliated. She speaks carefully when her life is falling apart. She tries to be decent in a society that treats decency as a scandal once it crosses race, gender, or sexual boundaries. She has played it all beautifully. She shows beautifully that Cathy is a woman of her time slowly discovering that the life she was promised was built on silence.

‘Boogie Nights’ (1997)
Amber Waves (Julianne Moore) is one of Moore’s greatest roles because the character understands the fantasy and the damage at the same time. In Boogie Nights, the porn world around Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds)’s crew sells pleasure, fame, family, and freedom, but everyone inside it is carrying some private rupture. Amber becomes a mother figure to Dirk Diggler (Mark Wahlberg) and others on set, yet her own custody battle keeps reminding us that the warmth she gives this chosen family cannot repair the family she has lost.
Moore makes Amber glamorous, wrecked, tender, high, professional, and deeply sad without separating those pieces. Her scenes with Dirk have real affection, but they also expose how badly both people need the illusion they are building together. The courtroom material is crushing because Amber’s past and addiction get turned into evidence against her, and her love for her son has no power inside that system. Boogie Nights is a masterpiece because it sees the party, the comedy, the bodies, the music, and the money, then follows the hurt underneath. Amber is where that hurt becomes impossible to laugh off.

Shane Gillis has become one of comedy’s biggest stars, selling out arenas and earning a devoted following with his career. Now, the Pennsylvania native has reached another milestone after breaking two Guinness World Records during a sold-out show at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, cementing his place in comedy history.
On Friday, July 17, thousands gathered at Lincoln Financial Field to see Shane Gillis. The comedian has sold out massive arenas and stadiums across North America in the past, but his latest show reached another level after it broke two Guinness World Records.
According to reports, Gillis sold 77,047 tickets with 73,946 confirmed attendees, earning him the records for Most Tickets Sold for a Comedy Show by a Solo Comedian and the Largest Audience for a Comedian, respectively. The ticket sales milestone is a new title introduced by the organization, setting the number to beat at 54,000.
German comedian Mario Barth previously held the record for the largest audience for a comedian, a title he earned in 2008 after performing to a crowd of 67,733.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Andy Glass verified Gillis’ figures and said, “Tonight’s event was a powerful reminder that record-breaking achievements continue to capture people’s imagination around the world.”
Gillis’ record-breaking show pushed forward despite a Code Purple in Philadelphia due to “very unhealthy” air quality. Smoke plumes from the Canadian and Minnesota wildfires descended on the region, prompting officials to urge residents to stay indoors.
Ahead of his show, the comedian took to social media to tell his fans that he wouldn’t be canceling his performance. Fans said it was a bit hazy at the venue, but they were not too bothered. “I would put a hazmat suit on to Shane. I won’t miss this for the world,” one said.
Kicking off the show was former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, who hyped up the massive crowd with the iconic “E-A-G-L-E-S” chant. Jordan Mailata and Cooper DeJean also made appearances. Rapper Meek Mill then performed, followed by sets from comedians Matt McCusker, Big Jay Oakerson, and Dave Chapelle.
Gillis entered the venue to Dire Straits’ “Money for Nothing” and delivered an hour-long set. The show was closed by hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia.

Tom Brady and Logan Paul are no strangers to taking shots at one another. Brady retired from football in 2023, and he feels wrestling is an opportunity to show that he’s still “a bit of an athlete.” He pointed out that his fellow NFL player Rob Gronkowski has also been in the ring, and he wants the same chance. “I could get in there for at least one match, right?” he told Rhodes.

Audiences are conditioned to expect closure, even if that closure comes at a terrible cost. The Thing refuses to play by those rules. After the destruction of Outpost 31, only R.J. MacReady (Kurt Russell) and Childs (Keith David) remain alive. Destruction surrounds them and survival looks bleak. The alien may be dead, or it may be sitting just a few feet away wearing a familiar face. MacReady offers Childs a bottle of whiskey, the two exchange exhausted glances, and they simply wait. That’s it.
There is no confession, final transformation, or triumphant reveal that humanity has been saved. Carpenter cuts to black before the audience gets what it wants, forcing everyone to sit with the exact same uncertainty consuming the characters themselves. The brilliance of that decision is that The Thing was never really about defeating the creature, it was about the paranoia the creature creates. Throughout the movie, Carpenter slowly dismantles every form of trust between the survivors. Blood tests become life-or-death interrogations. Every conversation carries suspicion. Every glance could be a lie. Friends become threats because anyone could already be infected without knowing it. By the end, that paranoia has infected the audience just as completely.
Every Possible Answer Makes the Ending Better
For more than 40 years, fans have debated whether Childs is really the Thing. Others argue MacReady has been infected. Some believe neither man is compromised, and they’re simply accepting their inevitable deaths together. Entire theories have been built around the bottle of whiskey, the characters’ breath in the freezing air, the direction Childs came from, and even subtle lighting choices. The remarkable part is that none of those theories actually matter. If Childs is the Thing, humanity may already be doomed. If MacReady is the Thing, the ending becomes even more tragic because Childs never stood a chance. If they’re both human, the alien has already won anyway by destroying their ability to trust each other.
Every interpretation reinforces the same central idea: the monster doesn’t just imitate people, it destroys certainty itself. That’s why revealing the truth would weaken the movie rather than strengthen it. Any definitive answer instantly closes the conversation. Ambiguity keeps The Thing alive even after the credits roll, because every viewer becomes another participant in the paranoia.
Horror Has Been Chasing This Ending Ever Since
It’s easy to find horror movies with bigger twists, bloodier finales, or louder last-minute scares. What’s far harder to find is an ending that feels this complete. The final scene works because it isn’t trying to surprise the audience with one last trick. It’s the inevitable conclusion to everything the movie has been building from its opening minutes. By stripping away certainty, Carpenter forces viewers to experience the same fear as his characters. We don’t leave The Thing wondering what happened because the movie forgot to answer the question. We leave wondering because that uncertainty is the point.
More than 40 years later, audiences are still arguing over those last few minutes, and every new theory only proves why Carpenter made the right choice. Horror has produced countless unforgettable endings since 1982, but none have captured the same perfect balance of dread, ambiguity, and thematic payoff. Some mysteries are meant to be solved, but The Thing understood that the most terrifying ones never should be.

Armando said in a July 2026 Instagram video that he was working at his shop next to his parents’ home when Hannah called him in distress.
“She said she wasn’t feeling good. She’s crying. I went over. I noticed her face was droopy — half of her face — and her lips and stuff,” Armando said. “Half of her body had no strength. So [I] immediately took her to the doctor.
At the local doctor’s office, Hannah’s blood pressure tested normal, which puzzled the physician. He told Armando that the symptoms suggested “something with the brain,” but Hannah’s age and normal blood pressure made the case unusual.
Because the family lives in a small town in Mexico without advanced scanning equipment, the doctor recommended transferring Hannah to a facility in the United States.

The next step, they said they were going to do an angioplasty to see if they get answers through there,” Armando said, describing the procedure used to restore blood flow. “Most likely they will [get answers], they think. That means they have to put her out and I guess they go through her neck.”
Per Armano, his daughter could be unconscious for hours or a full day following the procedure.
