However, after months of speculation, insiders are now shedding light on what allegedly caused the friendship to unravel. 

From claims of “stealing friends” to major life changes after Gomez married Benny Blanco, the once highly visible bond between the singer-actress and the celebrity couple appears to have quietly faded behind the scenes.

Selena Gomez and Nicola Peltz reportedly formed their friendship during an awkward Hollywood moment involving the singer’s famous ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber and his wife, Hailey Bieber.

According to an insider, Gomez found herself unexpectedly seeing the married couple at a star-studded event when Peltz stepped in to help ease the situation.

“Nicola and Selena actually met at an event when she saw Justin and Hailey and needed a wingwoman and Nicola swooped in and invited her to sit with her,” the insider told the Daily Mail.

At the time, Gomez and Justin had already gone through years of ups and downs. The former couple split in 2018, just months before Justin married Hailey in a courthouse ceremony.

Shortly after his wedding, Gomez reportedly suffered a breakdown related to her lupus and later sought treatment for her mental health.

Four years later, Gomez met Peltz and Beckham at the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles, where the trio quickly developed a close bond.

That same event also produced a viral moment after the 33-year-old posed for a photo cuddled up next to Hailey, signaling what appeared to be a peaceful relationship between the women.

While Selena Gomez and Nicola Peltz once appeared inseparable, insiders now claim tension quietly developed within the friendship.

According to one source, Gomez eventually became uncomfortable with how close the actress had become to her inner circle.

“But eventually, Selena felt Nicola was stealing her friends as she started hanging out with her friends without her present and that bothered Selena, so Selena separated herself,” the insider alleged.

The source further claimed the pair are “no longer friends due to Selena’s insecurity.” The friendship fallout rumors intensified last year after Peltz and Beckham failed to attend Gomez’s wedding to music producer Benny Blanco.

Then, in January, Peltz added more fuel to the speculation after deleting Instagram photos featuring Gomez before posting the cryptic message, “Some friendships come with expiration dates.”

Despite the rumored estrangement, there are still lingering social media connections between the former friends. Peltz and Beckham continue following Gomez on Instagram, while Gomez still follows Peltz as well.

“I feel like she’s my soul sister. I love her so much. She’s truly one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met in my whole life,” Peltz said.

“The kindest person ever. Truly, her heart is gold. I feel like I’ve known her forever,” she added.

Gomez also leaned heavily into the friendship online, once posting a photo with Peltz and Beckham alongside the caption, “Fine call us a throuple #foreverplusone.”

At the time, the trio frequently attended events together and often shared affectionate social media posts documenting vacations, parties, and outings. Their close friendship quickly became a favorite among fans online.

Gomez’s Marriage To Blanco Changed Her Lifestyle

Another insider claimed Selena Gomez’s evolving lifestyle after marrying Blanco also contributed to the distance between her and Peltz.

“Selena’s life changed – in her eyes, for the better – once she fell in love with and married Benny,” the source told the Daily Mail.

“These days, her world is much more low-key. She spends most of her time working, writing and recording music, and simply enjoying life with him,” they added.

The insider explained that the “Who Says” singer and her husband have largely stepped away from Hollywood’s nonstop social scene.

“She still sees friends at award shows or the occasional house gathering that she and Benny host, but for the most part, they’ve embraced a quieter lifestyle and stepped away from the constant celebrity scene of going out, partying, and always being seen,” the source continued.

Gomez began dating the 38-year-old producer during the summer before eventually marrying him last year in Santa Barbara. 

The wedding attracted major celebrities including Steve Martin, Martin Short, Taylor Swift, and Ed Sheeran. However, fans quickly noticed that Peltz and Beckham were absent from the ceremony.

According to insiders, Gomez’s friendship with Peltz may have faded more because of changing lifestyles than dramatic public conflict.

“Because of that shift, friendships with people like Nicola and Brooklyn have naturally taken more of a backseat,” the source explained. 

The insider compared the situation to reconnecting with old friends later in life.

“It’s similar to what happens after high school – you can reconnect years later and have an amazing time catching up, but you no longer spend every day together. Not because there’s any bad blood, but because life has taken everyone in very different directions,” they explained.

The source added that Gomez still looks back fondly on the friendship despite the current distance. 

However, the insider admitted that that chapter of the former Nickelodeon’s life has passed and she’s more focused on her immediate family and her future life.
