Shailene Woodley’s Reactions To Aaron Rodgers’ Shocking Claims

Shailene Woodley does not appear interested in publicly revisiting her failed engagement to Aaron Rodgers, even after the NFL star shared surprising new claims about their relationship.

When recently asked about her ex-fiancé’s comments, the actress responded in an unusual way without offering a specific explanation.

Shailene Woodley’s silence comes years after she spoke about the emotional toll that period of her life took on her, with Aaron Rodgers recently challenging the way their breakup has been portrayed.

Woodley kept her reaction brief when she was approached about Rodgers while attending a pre-Emmys event in Los Angeles on September 13. A reporter asked the actress whether she had anything to say about her former fiancé’s recent remarks.

Her reaction came days after Rodgers discussed their relationship during an appearance on his Pittsburgh Steelers teammate, Cam Heyward’s “Not Just Football” podcast.

“I date Shailene, I propose, and she says yes,” Rodgers recalled, as reported by The Blast. He then claimed that only days later, Woodley told him, “I got to go f-ck this guy.”

Rodgers also disputed the idea that he caused Woodley’s emotional struggles. “Cause her story is, I ruined her life and gave her crazy depression because I left her,” he said. He also maintained that their later attempts to reconcile never worked out.

Rather than respond directly, Woodley simply laughed before turning around and walking away with a friend, according to TMZ. Her brief reaction offered no indication of whether she agreed with Rodgers’ version of events or not; however, it got some people talking online.

One comment on X about her response read, “A toxic narcissist always tries to create drama to suck people in. She is refusing to engage no matter how inflammatory his garbage is. This is what survivors are taught to do with people like him.”

Another wrote, “The only option when you are unexpectedly TORCHED by your ex. She had dogged him a while ago, so she probably assumed the dust settled.”

“Imagine getting followed around because Aaron Rodgers said some dumb shit on a podcast again,” a third noted.

The Actress Previously Said Their Relationship Left Her In A ‘Dark’ Place

Although Woodley chose not to address Rodgers’ latest claims, she has previously been open about how difficult that chapter of her life became.

While filming “Three Women” between late 2021 and May 2022, Woodley said she was experiencing “the darkest, hardest time in my life.” Her personal struggles unfolded alongside the intense public interest surrounding her relationship with Rodgers.

“It was winter in New York, and my personal life was sh-tty, so it felt like a big pain bubble for eight months,” she previously recalled in an interview with Net-A-Porter. Acting became an outlet for those emotions, allowing her to channel some of what she was experiencing into her character.

Woodley later revealed to Outside Magazine that she experienced depression for about six months in 2022. She also admitted that discussing her romance with Rodgers “always makes me cry.”

Despite the painful ending, she did not dismiss the relationship entirely, simply noting that “it was not right. But it was beautiful.”

Aaron Rodgers Pushes Back Against The Narrative That He Was To Be Blamed

Rodgers recently challenged what he believes has become an inaccurate version of his breakup with Woodley. During his podcast appearance, the quarterback disputed the idea that he ended the relationship and left the actress struggling emotionally.

According to Rodgers, Woodley had already decided she did not want to continue their engagement. He claimed she removed her ring months after his proposal and told him, “I don’t want to be with you.”

Rodgers also suggested that public accounts of his previous romances have unfairly portrayed him as responsible whenever things went wrong.

“There’s just a lot of narratives out there that are just not true,” he said, adding that outsiders do not know what happened privately. Woodley, meanwhile, has so far chosen laughter rather than a public rebuttal to his latest version of events.

Sources Said Their Relationship Was Never Meant To Happen

Long before Rodgers publicly challenged the narrative surrounding their breakup, people close to the former couple suggested they were simply not well suited for each other.

A source told People in 2022 that Woodley and Rodgers “fell hard and fast,” but were “a mismatch from the start.”

Their romance developed during the pandemic, when they were able to focus heavily on each other without many of the demands of their usual lives.

Once those circumstances changed, their differences became harder to overlook. Another insider described them as “very different people with busy careers” who faced problems they could not overcome.

The pair also did not always share the same views. Sources said they had learned to “agree to disagree” on topics where their opinions differed. For those around the couple, their eventual split was not entirely surprising.

Beyond Relationship Drama, Shailene Woodley Goes All Out For Her First Emmy Win

While her past with Rodgers has suddenly returned to the headlines, Woodley has a major career achievement of her own to celebrate. The actress recently picked up the first Emmy Award of her career for her performance in Hulu’s “Paradise.”

Woodley won Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys for playing Annie Clay. Her victory was particularly significant for the show, as she became its only winner despite “Paradise” receiving seven nominations during this year’s awards season.

She attended the Emmys in Balenciaga sequined trousers, a plunging periwinkle top, and opera gloves. Woodley completed the look with a $98,000 HOWL necklace made with colorful Venetian glass, gold, and diamonds.

The milestone comes nearly a decade after her previous Emmy appearance in 2017, when she was nominated for “Big Little Lies.” This time, Woodley arrived as an Emmy winner, giving her something much bigger to celebrate than the renewed attention surrounding a relationship that ended years ago.
