The Bachelorette alum Ryan Sutter has dealt with highs and lows of his Lyme disease battle.

“I’m at a pretty good place. I think the majority of my days are good, with a few bad ones sprinkled in there,” Sutter, 51, told People in an interview published Thursday, March 19. “I’ve kind of learned how to handle those. If I pay close enough attention, I can feel the onset of things coming on, and then I’ll just make sure I don’t overdo it or overexert myself.”

Ryan, who is married to the first-ever Bachelorette Trista Sutter, confirmed his diagnosis in 2021. While dealing with the health battle, Ryan soon began navigating a series of dark thoughts and feelings.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever sympathized with suicide,” Ryan told the outlet. “I was never like, ‘I need to go [act on the thoughts],’ but I understood that [chronically ill] people get to this level of frustration where they just feel like they’re going to feel like this for the rest of their lives, or be a burden on everybody that they’re around.”

He continued, “You think, ‘I don’t know what my purpose in life is,’ and if there is no purpose to it, if it’s just getting up every day and feeling like this. It really hurts me to think that so many people are in that kind of pain and don’t think they’ll ever get out of it.”

Ryan noted he’s learned to pay “closer attention” to his moods and make sure to take supplements to help combat any suicidal thoughts.

“As long as I can keep going, moving forward, I feel like that keeps it at bay,” he explained. “But, compared to when I first got diagnosed, it’s like night and day. If I refer back to that time, I’m always like, ‘I’ll take this a hundred times out of a hundred.’ It’s way better than what it used to be. Also, the mindset I’ve developed is that it’s just not going to be what gets me off the rails.”

The firefighter is also hopeful that there will eventually be a cure for his future family’s sake.

“I just want to be healthy enough that, God willing, we have grandkids that I can do fun things with them,” he said.

Watching Ryan navigate his Lyme battle has been particularly “scary” for Trista.

“He definitely has a lot of ups and downs still and really would like to feel better at least most of the time. He says he’s about 80 percent,” Trista said on Chris Harrison’s “Most Dramatic Podcast Ever” in April 2025. “I would go to his doctor’s appointments with him because he is so incredibly humble. So he’s like, ‘Oh, I don’t want to complain about whatever’s going on with me,’ even if it’s really significant.”

She added at the time, “If it was me that was going through what he’s going through, I would be bedridden every single day and maybe even hospitalized. He is able to get through this because he’s freaking superhuman. I don’t understand it.”

The business mogul is fully backing and endorsing the new bill introduced by Senator Cory Booker this week, which would ensure that firefighters who work from prison would get a minimum wage. According to Kardashian, her interest grew in the case because she watched prisoners put their all into fighting the Los Angeles fires last year.

The bill was reintroduced by the democrat on Thursday, March 19, and it would require that prisoners who are working get to earn the minimum wage through amendments to the Fair Labor Standards Act. This bill will also eliminate outrageous deductions for fees, fines, and living costs in prisons.

Kardashian explained why she joined the movement, stating that the firefighters whom she personally watched risk their lives to curb the spread showed so much bravery and courage, just like professional firefighters, but earned less pay. “In many cases, they’re banned from even applying for firefighting jobs once they’re released. That’s not just unfair, it’s un-American,” the media personality declared, as shared by PEOPLE.

The mother-of-four declared that the inmates worked grueling hours under harsh weather and living conditions, only to earn less than $1 hour, which is nothing compared to such a large-scale disaster.

According to reports, nearly 1,000 inmates assisted in combating the wildfires, which they claimed had already burned over 40,000 acres and killed about 16 people. However, no inmate firefighters have lost their lives in the process of saving affected persons.

She uploaded a sample picture of one of the numerous scam emails going around with her name on it, warning her followers to verify links before donating to anyone. The Blast noted that the reality star also praised the firefighters for staying up all night long to help families affected by the fire and save the community.

The Los Angeles wildfires, which began last January, consumed over 40,000 acres of land in the Southern part of Los Angeles, with more than 200,000 persons evacuated as efforts were made to rein in the spread. The fire affected homes of celebrities like Mel Gibson, Paris Hilton, Anthony Hopkins, Tina Knowles, John Goodman, Candy Spelling, Milo Ventimiglia, and Miles Teller, alongside 12,000 other structures.

The cracks in their mental fortitude are starting to show across the board — fractures exacerbated by an unreliable sociopolitical system that either can’t, or chooses not to, support its caretakers with a reliable foundation.

This, of course, is on par with R. Scott Gemmill and Noah Wyle‘s vision for their lightning-in-a-bottle drama. The Pitt isn’t content to float along buoyed by empty talking points. Its acclaim hails from its no-frills, no-lies commitment to keeping its finger on the pulse of viscerally resonant issues, and does so via what should be common fictional practice — giving impacted communities at the epicenter of economic disparity, racism, misogynistic violence, and more the dignity of a face and voice. In the wake of Episode 9 broaching the inarguably controversial and indefensibly violent mass immigration raids occurring across American cities, Episode 11 — one of the series’ most harrowing and unsettling hours — escalates with two ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) officers’ direct presence inside the emergency department.

‘The Pitt’ Season 2’s ICE Storyline Parallels Current Events

In late February, executive producer John Wells‘ interview on The Town with Matt Belloni podcast referred to the show’s upcoming ICE-related storyline as an echo of an ongoing crisis unfolding within hospital rooms — specifically, those based within Minnesota, the site of multiple citizen fatalities caused by ICE agents. Wells cites The New York Times’ recent investigative report into healthcare workers who have raised concerns regarding patient safety, privacy, and their lawful right to receive life-saving care regardless of their immigration status. The article asserts how “many [workers] have been shocked, both by the actions of agents inside their hospitals, as well as the injuries that have required treatment as a result of confrontations on the streets.”

Episode 11, hailing from executive story editor Valerie Chu and director Uta Briesewitz, indeed matches the above claims with a combination of eviscerating honesty and impeccable delicacy. Even amidst the hospital’s analog chaos, everyone within eyesight halts as soon as the armed and uniformed Correa and Russo lead in Pranita, one of many restaurant employees who fled the agents’ raid. Not only are her wrists bound by zip-ties, but she also sustained her agonizing shoulder injury from ICE’s violent and discriminatory detainment. In this circumstance, “irony” is far too insubstantial a word.

‘The Pitt’ Season 2 Tackles the Show’s Heaviest Topic to Date

As for Dr. Robby (Wyle), whose trademark empathy has been in tatters this season, he immediately pivots into a defensive and barely contained fury. He despises this situation, yet still chooses the opposite of Al-Hashimi’s preferred action, instructing McKay to expedite Pranita’s treatment to minimize the precarious risk to everyone else’s safety. After Russo forbids Pranita from making any phone calls but complains about the wait time for a potential x-ray and wants a bathroom for his own comfort, Robby’s brusque rage boils over in the right direction, for once — berating an ICE officer to his concealed face as “a distraction and a disruption” that’s costing the hospital their valuable staff and compromising the care that every terrified patient deserves. Even before the episode’s culminating and deeply personal blow, the ripple effects are snowballing toward catastrophe.

That personal blow arrives in the form of Nurse Jesse Van Horn (Ned Brower), both instinctively and willingly intervening to protect Pranita from further harm, and finding himself shoved to the floor and dragged away for an act of courage that should be natural human decency. The entire floor rallies behind Jesse, yet once again, those in power — PTMC’s lawyer team — are too consumed with the cyberattack to prioritize physically and legally protecting one of their nurses. Addressing systemically oppressive, harmful failures is integral to The Pitt‘s DNA. Season 2 might not include a mass casualty incident, but the department faces a different kind of emergency — that of psychological warfare, weaponized ego, and unchecked power being weaponized against innocent communities.

Brick City Builders’ Tyreek Griffith has been accused of running off with $150,000 in insurance money after abandoning a fire-damaged home in New Jersey. The Calixte family says they hired Griffith, who was a family friend, to rebuild their home. But after paying $150,000 for the second phase of the project, Griffith allegedly abandoned plans, and their home only became more damaged.

Now, Tyreek Griffith is speaking out and setting the record straight. This, as the family has filed a $180K civil lawsuit.

According to Carter, the total cost to rebuild the home after the fire was $420,000. Furthermore, the plan was to split the project into phases. Per Rosemica Calixte, the daughter of Soleme Calixte, the first phase was a $30,000 demolition. Then, this was to be followed by framing, installing a fire escape, rough plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and windows.

“That phase resulted in paying $150,000. So we paid that second phase before the work was completed,” Rosemica explained to Carter.

Per Rosemica, she and her family believed their permit and other documents had been approved for construction. But once construction was underway to lower the house’s foundation, the side of the house, along with the sidewalk, collapsed.

“Why is the house collapsing if we paid a structural engineer to keep the integrity of the house — to make sure that the foundation was stable. Why did it fall down?” Rosemica told Carter.

What Really Happened?

According to Rosemica, Griffith told them the wall and the house were old. Additionally, she allegedly learned that the structural engineer was unaware of Griffith’s construction plans.

However, the family’s trauma is now at the center of a $122,000 non-economic damages lawsuit, plus $2,600 in back rent.

Neighbors expressed disbelief over the shocking claim. Ronnie Williams said, “That’s not a bug, that’s a god-d*mn… that’s an animal. Padilla Moves Forward After Shocking Apartment Ordeal

Padilla’s lawyer, Fuller, emphasized that the family is focused on moving forward after the ordeal. “They’re trying to put it behind them and just focus on the future,” Fuller said, noting the family had to uproot just two months after moving in. The apartment’s owner, AMFP V Pine Village LLC, has been contacted for comment, but has yet to respond.
