The Perfect Wario For Super Mario’s Next Movie Has Been Found

Now that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has finally landed, fans are already wondering how to cast additional characters from the Nintendo rogues gallery. Sure, Chris Pratt was a major curveball for fans of the Mario Bros. franchise back when he was first announced, but now that we’re two movies deep, he comes off as naturally as a plate of mushroom pasta and an act of senseless turtle violence. One Super Mario Galaxy cast member has made a particularly interesting suggestion for the role of Wario, however, that makes me rethink everything we know about the Mushroom Kingdom cinematic universe.

Specifically, Luigi voice actor Charlie Day sat down for an interview and highlighted his Always Sunny In Philadelphia costar Danny DeVito as the perfect Wario. When asked about his dream casting pick, Day explained “Danny would fit so well in this universe, and he would be a good Wario, I think.” As the press junket carried on, other cast members threw their own suggestions in the ring, but my mind was already awash with the perfect Always Sunny crossover event.

Perfect Cast For Perfect Crossover

Maybe it’s just the super-fan in me, but I think the whole Always Sunny cast could bring something to the future of the Nintendo film franchise. If Danny DeVito does join in as Wario, we’ll need a Waluigi to tag along. For my money, I’d argue that the best Waluigi in cinema history would be the golden god himself, Glenn Howerton. Howerton’s performance as Dennis Reynolds may not seem like an immediate blueprint for the lanky Luigi foil, but fans of the Juilliard graduate will note that Glenn is an expert at performing strange little goblin voices. If you’re not convinced, pull up a clip of his off-the-walls Steven Spielberg impression during the brief but notable run of The Always Sunny Podcast.

While we’re at it, let’s tag in Sweet Dee actress Kaitlin Olson to portray Princess Daisy, and Rickety Cricket actor David Hornsby as Monty Mole. We don’t need to stop at Super Mario characters, either. As we’ve seen with the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, a wide array of Nintendo IPs are coming into the fold, including the likes of Fox McCloud. If we open our scope to the entire Smash Bros. roster, we can get Always Sunny‘s Rob Mac as Punch-Out protagonist Little Mac. I know it’s not a live-action franchise, but the fact that Rob has gotten positively jacked in recent years just makes the casting feel that much more perfect.

I’m sure Charlie Day doesn’t want to leverage his insider position to flood Nintendo with discussions of bird law, jean shorts, and spaghetti policies, but at this point, I think you’d be hard-pressed to find better picks for any of the previously mentioned characters. Look me in the eye and tell me Always Sunny‘s Uncle Jack wouldn’t make the best Toadstool on the big screen. Try to convince me that Z from under the bridge wouldn’t absolutely bring Kirby, Mewtwo, or Ganondorf to life like never before. I may be but one humble Phillies fanatic, but it seems to me that the next Mario Bros. movie is majorly overdue for some wild card antics.
