Tyrese Feuds With Bette Midler On Instagram Over AI Music
Tyrese is feuding with “Hocus Pocus” star Bette Midler on Instagram. The actress and singer posted a picture about a song that’s recently dominated certain music charts, calling it “good,” but said she’s disappointed the track is entirely made by AI. In the comments, many other singers and entertainers agreed with Midler, except Tyrese, who offered a different perspective. According to the “Sweet Lady” singer, Midler should either learn to live with AI or improve her skills, because from the looks of it, artificial intelligence doesn’t appear to be going anywhere any time soon.
On her social media, Midler shared a statement, criticizing the song “Celebrate Me” by IngaRose. The song has recently gone viral online and even snagged spots on verified music charts. However, the song is not performed by a human; it was created using the AI music platform Suno.
“This song, currently on the charts, is AI generated,” Midler wrote online. “It’s a good song,” she added; however, she has a problem with “every lick, every riff, every thought, phrasing style, every choke in the voice, every sorrowful sound” being stolen from “thousands of human artists since the beginning of recorded music.”
Midler continued, “This is #culturalgenocide.”
Tyrese Claps Back At Bette Midler On Instagram: ‘This Song Has Inspired Even ME!’
Midler’s post has caught the attention of many, with 82,000 likes and over 10,000 reposts. Several personalities agreed with Midler, including one who said they can tell when music is AI-generated because it “has this overly compressed, phasey, synthetic, flanged, over-processed sheen.”
Another even critiqued Midler, saying the song is not “good,” but rather “soulless.” They added, “It also tries too hard. If we have been listening, really listening, listening through the years, then we can tell this is sh-t.”
Tyrese was one public figure who disagreed with Midler, telling her that complaining wouldn’t change the reality of the situation. “AI isn’t going anywhere,” he wrote. “This song is actually a great song. I know it’s AI. So many are depressed, divorced, and discouraged. This song has even inspired ME!”
Tyrese Told Bette Midler To Get Better Instead Of Complain
And he didn’t stop there. Tyrese said that the hope he feels by listening to the song is something human artists haven’t been able to accomplish in years.
“What HUMAN writer and SINGER IS gonna write a song that’s better than this?? Don’t complain…. Just step your shhhhhhhh up…. The world needs HOPE,” he finished.
Tyrese’s message didn’t resonate with as many people as he might’ve thought. In fact, several Instagram users replied to his message, slamming him for promoting AI in music. “Shut your b-tch a** up,” someone said. “You should be against it also.”
SZA Slams ‘Degenerate’ AI Music In Empassioned Post
According to The Blast, SZA is another musician who slammed those who use and promote AI in music. Like Midler, she condemned AI machines that are trained on human vocals and sounds. She also slammed those in the industry who have embraced AI, describing them as “disgusting.” SZA added, “There’s NOTHING YOU COULD EVER SAY TO ME TO MAKE THIS OKAY.”
SZA Has Condemned AI Use Before
SZA has been open about her disdain for AI before. In 2025, she said she “hates” AI and doesn’t want to have any part of it. “Ppl and children are dying from the harm n pollution AI energy centers are creating. A stupid photo is not worth polluting and harming underserved communities. Thank you,” she said.
SZA also reflected on how AI artists are gaining recognition faster than human artists who have spent years trying to get noticed. “I’m genuinely sad for people who are trying to come up and their space is being taken up by a computer program. IT, not she, is taking all of the data it’s collected on us and what we want and is tailoring to us. Even down to the voice,” she said.
