‘The Night Agent’s 85% Rotten Tomatoes Replacement Series Is a Darker Spy Thriller Binge
It’s been almost two months since Season 3 of The Night Agent was released, and if you’re beginning to feel an itch for a spy thriller, I don’t blame you. There’s just nothing better than investing in a convoluted yet fascinating plot with twists and turns and great action. Therefore, if you’re willing to enter a darker world of assassins, special agents, and morally dubious interests, The Day of the Jackal needs to be your next binge.
Based on the 1971 book of the same name written by Frederick Forsyth, the series features a mysterious yet highly skilled assassin only known as The Jackal (Eddie Redmayne) who pursues his target while the law attempts to foil his plan. However, the TV show updates the tale to the modern day, with Redmayne’s character now being paid to kill an Elon Musk-type billionaire. While both The Day of the Jackal and The Night Agent will have you on the edge of your seat every episode, there are key differences in how the former presents its morally complex protagonist and antagonist compared to the latter’s relatively straightforward morality that will make this a comforting yet unique experience.
‘The Day of the Jackal’s Titular Character Is Not a Good Guy Like Peter
When one thinks of The Night Agent, the thing that comes to mind immediately will most likely be Peter’s (Gabriel Basso) unwavering morality. His determination to protect Rose (Luciane Buchanan), even when it means disobeying some of the most powerful people in Washington, is what makes him the kind of lovable hero we can support from the very first moment we meet him. Even in Season 2, when his isolation pushes him to the brink of what he is willing to do, he never physically crosses the line of torture or putting innocents in danger.
If you think The Day of the Jackal will have a protagonist such as this, you’ll need to severely adjust your expectations. Even the word “antihero” is arguably a stretch too far to describe The Jackal. Redmayne’s cold performance, which can switch to incredibly charming when necessary, along with the character’s skill in covert killing, makes him both frightening and enjoyable to watch. When we are introduced to The Jackal, he assassinates a far-right politician with a record-breaking sniper shot from a gun that we see him assemble from a suitcase before putting it back together and calmly walking away, leaving a bomb for the police. Through this scene, our perspective of The Jackal is established. His ability makes him impressive, while his composure tells us he has no moral compass guided by social norms, and the fact that his victim is not particularly moral in and of himself permits us to enjoy this act of violence.
20 Shows To Watch if You Loved ‘The Day of the Jackal’
The shows to watch in a darkened parking garage.
The contrast between the two leads is striking, but this also affects their mode of operation. The Jackal is typically in control of the situation, whereas Peter is consistently on the back foot in terms of resources and assistance. While Peter’s underdog, never-say-die attitude is easy to root for, there is something intensely satisfying about watching The Jackal operate. The more nuanced exploration of the kind of people who exist in this world in the shadows is arguably more realistic and keeps us guessing about who we want to succeed.
The Jackal’s Mysterious Past in ‘The Day of the Jackal’ Serves a Different Purpose
For both Peter and The Jackal, their pasts are incredibly key to the narrative told in The Night Agent and The Day of the Jackal, respectively. However, the way these protagonists interact with and acknowledge their backstories is fascinating for the impact it has on how we perceive them. In The Night Agent, Peter’s past, with his Dad accused of being a traitor and everybody believing he’ll turn out the same, is something he feels he must work to shrug off.
This gives him a sense of urgency, and with that urgency comes the possibility that it will be used to insult or manipulate him, as it is multiple times throughout The Night Agent. In comparison, The Jackal’s past is a central subplot of the show, with the slow discovery of how he became the heartless hitman he is today only increasing our fear and respect for him. Since The Jackal is spending the entire show ignoring his past while others are trying to resurrect it to learn his identity, the mystery presents him as a specter-like figure with no beginning and, therefore, no end.
Lashana Lynch’s Bianca Pursues Justice in a Darker Way Than ‘The Night Agent’s Peter
A more equivalent character to Peter in terms of someone who works to stop criminals is Lashana Lynch‘s Bianca. She is an MI6 agent and weapons specialist, which means she has a way to identify where The Jackal gets his custom-built weapons, and she defies superiors in her pursuit of bringing the assassin to justice. However, that isn’t to say Bianca is the automatic “good guy” in this battle. Bianca is obsessive and regularly ignores the lives of her family to focus on her work. While there is the argument that she is still, at the end of the day, trying to do the right thing, the fact that she uses innocents to get the information she wants, even getting someone killed at one point of the series, drastically complicates our relationship with her, and we go back and forth between despising her and praying she’ll catch The Jackal.
Overall, the main difference between The Night Agent and The Day of the Jackal is that the latter is far more morally complex than the former. There isn’t anything wrong with The Night Agent‘s clear divide between heroes and villains, but The Day of the Jackal does slightly more interesting things with its protagonist and antagonist in terms of their morality and presentation, which makes it a show that has you constantly developing your relationship with the characters.

Netflix’s 6-Part Sci-Fi Series Is the Perfect Binge Before Its Bigger and Better Season 2 Return
Netflix gave us some great shows in 2025, but not many of them were as incredible as The Eternaut. This Argentine gem of a series quickly and quietly became one of the streamer’s greatest hits that year. Although it has only six episodes in its first season, The Eternaut is one of the best sci-fi series in recent years and one of Netflix’s boldest projects. Its success has also prompted a quick Season 2 renewal, with the promise of making it even bigger and better.
What Is ‘The Eternaut’ About?
Netflix has made an effort in recent years to expand its catalog with iconic Latin American stories, including productions such as Senna, One Hundred Years of Solitude, and, of course, The Eternaut. The latter was originally a seminal comic book by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López, released in 1957, and is one of the defining stories in Argentine culture within the last century.
While the Netflix series makes some changes to the original material to fit the streaming format, the key aspects and plotlines remain intact. The story follows Juan Salvo (Ricardo Darín), a man whose truco night with friends is suddenly interrupted when a mysterious snowfall begins falling over Buenos Aires and killing everyone it directly touches. The only way to leave shelter safely is to completely cover one’s body, leading to the show’s iconic image of Salvo wearing a diving suit to explore his changed surroundings.
Those with enough layers to venture outside also have to deal with giant insect-like beings that are now storming the city streets and attacking survivors. Unfortunately, it gets even worse: some people are also turning on their fellow survivors and allying with the insects, hinting at a coordinated alien invasion. Salvo remains one of the few sane people in this chaos, trying to save his family and friends and make sense of the weird visions he’s been having since it all began.
‘The Eternaut’ Is a Window Into the Darkest Parts of Argentine History
Beneath its outer science fiction layer, The Eternaut‘s story is a sharp critique of fascism and authoritarian regimes. Each stage of the invasion represents different aspects of how oppression gradually takes over, increasing violence and repression until most people are too numb to realize what’s happened. Those who do must band together and resist, as per the show’s logline: “Nadie se salva solo” (“No one is saved alone”).
The Eternaut resonates especially with Argentina’s own troubled past and present, as the comic book was first published when the country was ruled by a military junta following a coup, a time when the opposition was targeted ruthlessly and democratic institutions and policies were openly thwarted. Decades later, another military dictatorship took over during the infamous Dirty War, repeating the cycle, victimizing people such as Oesterheld himself, and leaving scars still visible in Argentine politics and society.
These cycles represent the deep instability and insecurity that Argentina has endured for decades now, both financially and politically. As a country, it has been in a constant state of crisis all this time, and even the most well-meaning of governments usually fail to bring a long-term sense of security to the people. In The Eternaut, that’s represented not only by the successive “waves” in the invasion, but also by the makeshift way people handle it, relying only on each other and things they know for sure work.
‘The Eternaut’ Season 2 Will Be Even Bigger Than Season 1
Although short, Season 1 of The Eternaut was impactful enough for Netflix to quickly renew it. The series has barely reached the comic book’s halfway mark, with changes being made mostly for the better, adjusting the pacing for the first season’s six-episode structure and introducing new characters and storylines. The season ends at a point when the story is about to expand significantly, with some important Buenos Aires locations set to play key roles as the true nature of the invasion becomes clearer.
This expansion comes at the perfect moment for both the series and Netflix. The streamer’s Vice President for Content for Latin America, Francisco Ramos, has recently shared that “the ambition has gone to a new level” for The Eternaut. Although filming hasn’t begun yet, Season 2 production is already underway and is “way bigger than Season 1, not only in budget, but in terms of scope and conception.” So, if Season 1 was already a remarkable adaptation, expectations for the second are now sky-high.
Getting international stars like Ricardo Darín in front of the cameras can’t be an easy task, given his demand, just like scheduling all the different production stages and making them work continuously also can’t. As Ramos says, production is now focused most on “technical with some VFX conceptualization,” both essential things, considering the new additions for Season 2 go way beyond giant insects. It may take a while, but that means now is the perfect time to catch up with The Eternaut before it returns on Netflix.

However, the exact amount of her bail hasn’t been disclosed. Kate Middleton Doc Slammed Over ‘Working Class’ Label
A resurfaced documentary is drawing renewed scrutiny for labeling Kate Middleton as “working class,” a claim that critics say misrepresents her upbringing.
The program, which traces her path from a middle-class family to royal life, has reignited debate over how Prince William is portrayed, particularly when it comes to class distinctions in Britain.
The renewed attention comes as new details about her relationship with the Prince of Wales have also surfaced, including claims she was left in “total shock” by his proposal after nearly a decade of dating.
William, meanwhile, has been reflecting on their early years together as they mark their 15th wedding anniversary on April 29.
“Kate Middleton: Working Class to Windsor” is the 2017 documentary getting torn apart for labeling Kate as “working class.” On social media, critics argue the claim collapses under even basic scrutiny.
Many pointed to her upbringing as proof that the label misses the mark entirely. “She went to a public school and had a privileged childhood. Your mother being brought up working class does not mean you are,” one Reddit user wrote.
Others went further, mocking the idea outright. “Pure satire. A woman who has never worked any form of gainful employment in her life is now (checks notes) working class,” another commenter said.
The Slow-Burn Love Story Of Prince William And Kate Middleton

Kate’s path to royal life was anything but instant, unfolding over years before she officially joined the monarchy through her 2011 marriage to William. The pair first met while studying art history at the University of St Andrews, where their relationship began as a friendship before gradually turning romantic.
The Prince of Wales later reflected on their early connection, admitting he sensed something different from the start. “When I first met Kate, I knew there was something very special about her,” he said, per ABC News. “I knew there was possibly something that I wanted to explore there.”
Despite that early impression, winning her over wasn’t immediate. William reportedly spent months trying to impress Kate before eventually succeeding.
The Split That Made Kate Middleton ‘Stronger’
William and Kate’s relationship wasn’t without its bumps, as the couple briefly split in 2007. The break reportedly came while he was training with the Household Cavalry in Windsor, leaving him with less time to see the former accessories buyer.
Looking back, Kate admitted the period wasn’t easy, but ultimately shaped her. “At the time I wasn’t very happy about it, but actually it made me a stronger person,” she later said, per Vogue.
The split didn’t last long. The pair eventually reunited and continued building their relationship, leading to William’s proposal in October 2010 using his late mother Princess Diana’s iconic ring.
Kate Was ‘In Shock’ When William Proposed

Kate was reportedly left stunned when William finally proposed, after years of uncertainty in their relationship. The couple married in April 2011, but according to royal biographer Katie Nicholl, she had begun to lose hope that the moment would ever come.
In her 2013 book “Kate: The Future Queen,” Nicholl claimed Kate was rendered “speechless” and in “total shock” when William popped the question. According to In Style, she had spent nearly a decade waiting.
“[Kate] had dared to hope that she might return from Africa with a ring on her finger,” Nicholl wrote, adding that by the final day of the trip, her “heart was heavy” as there was still “no sign of a proposal.”
William Looks Back On ‘Fun’ Early Years With Kate

William is looking back fondly on the early years of his relationship with Kate as they approach a major milestone. The couple marked their 15th wedding anniversary on April 29, a moment that has left the future King reflecting on their beginnings.
During a recent visit to a Royal Air Force training site in North Wales, William spoke warmly about his time stationed in Anglesey, where the couple set up their first marital home while he worked as a search and rescue pilot at the Holyhead base.
“I loved my time up here. It was great fun,” he told trainees, per Hello! Magazine. “Your time up here will go quickly… you’ll look back with fond memories.”

Netflix’s 9-Part Sitcom Is a Better ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Replacement Than You’d Expect
Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair has exceeded expectations, with largely favorable reviews and a staggering 8.1 million views globally in its first three days of streaming. The revival has also sparked a renewed interest in the original series, which garnered an increase of 18 million viewing hours compared to the previous week (per Collider). But where do you go now? You could turn to Agent Cody Banks for more of the talented Frankie Muniz, but with a 38% on Rotten Tomatoes, perhaps not the best idea. Your best bet lies on Netflix, which has the perfect 9-season sitcom available to binge in order to sate that appetite: The Middle.
‘The Middle’ Features a Quirky, Loving Family
The Middle was originally slated to air in 2007, with Ricki Lake as the lead, but ABC pivoted, ordering a second pilot after recasting all but one role, and switched out Lake for the vastly underappreciated Patricia Heaton. The revamped show, set in the fictional town of Orson, Indiana, premiered on September 30, 2009, with Heaton cast as, funnily enough, “Frankie.” Frankie is the matriarch of the Heck family (and narrator throughout the series’ run), a lower-middle-class family who love one another deeply, simply struggling to get by.
In the grand tradition of sitcoms, the Hecks have their idiosyncrasies that naturally complicate the most benign of situations. Frankie is a borderline neurotic, overworked, and perpetually stressed out by the surrounding chaos, a good portion of which is self-inflicted thanks to procrastination, laziness, and white lies that always come back to haunt her (but God help anyone who wrongs her family). Mike (Neil Flynn), her husband, is the sane voice of reason, a perfect complement to Frankie, and a practical, no-nonsense blue-collar worker with a snarky wit who steers clear of sentiment and social interaction as much as he can.
Rounding out the family are the three Heck children: Axl, Sue, and Brick. Axl (Charlie McDermott), the oldest, is unrelentingly sarcastic, unmotivated, overconfident, and eternally wearing only boxer shorts inside the home. He’s a talented athlete who is smarter than the “dumb jock” persona he has built, and takes great delight in tormenting his siblings. Sue (Eden Sher), the middle child, is optimistic to a fault, holding a stunningly positive outlook on life despite the awkward quirkiness that makes her a social misfit and a magnet for failure. Then there’s the youngest, Brick (Atticus Shaffer), an intellectual who would rather read a book than do anything else, characterized by his unique quirks: inexplicable “whooping”, whispering the last words of his sentences, licking things, and a passionate love for fonts.
‘The Middle’ Is a Heck — Literally — of a Good Show
Bolstered by memorable side characters like crazed neighbor Rita Glossner (Brooke Shields), Brad (Brock Ciarlelli), and standout youth pastor Reverend Tim Tom (Paul Hipp), The Middle is a Heck of a good show, proving popular enough that ABC picked up the series for a full season after airing only two episodes. The choice to center around a lower-middle-class family, woefully underserved in sitcoms as a whole, is brilliant, offering relatable moments like having to choose between fixing the dishwasher or eating, or simply trying to balance work with the chaos of family life. And unlike the trope that sees a childish husband constantly berated by a nagging wife, of which Heaton’s previous series, Everybody Loves Raymond, is a prime example, Frankie and Mike are a team, facing challenges together, making for a more cohesive and grounded family.
Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, and more return for the sitcom revival.
Full disclosure: The Middle doesn’t have that same chaotic, slapstick humor of Malcolm in the Middle, but it is equally laugh-out-loud hilarious. Moments like Axl inadvertently asking “Weird Ashley” to the prom, a hellish road trip to the wrong Disney park, the failed driving lesson that sees Brick crash Axl’s rusty Winnebago into the beloved Orson cow statue, the Heck vs. Glossner battles, or Frankie eating Axl’s toenails, clipped into a chip bag, by accident, are just some of the highlights.
The two series do, however, have a number of parallels. Brick and Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan) are intelligent, often overlooked, and odd, while Axl and Reese (Justin Berfield) play the stereotypical “older brother as tormentor” role. Both families struggle financially and exist in a decidedly non-glamorous suburban environment. Both mothers are the primary decision makers when it comes to the family, and are often seen as nagging, while the fathers are more passive. And both series ended on their own terms. Yet the most important element the two series share is the love of family, sometimes hard to see in the moment, but what it all comes back to in the end. That doesn’t, however, make up for the one glorious missed opportunity: a crossover episode. Who wouldn’t want to see Malcolm in the Middle in the Middle? Add Jimmy Eats World‘s “The Middle” into the soundtrack, and you’ve got a winner.

Shakira Posts Bambi, Lil Scrappy Spending Time With Son Kyrie
Roommates, it looks like co-parenting between Shakira Hardy and Lil Scrappy includes a hand from his ex-wife, Adiz ‘Bambi’ Benson. Shakira recently posted about Bam and Scrappy spending time with her son Kyrie while she was on a work trip. Meanwhile, the major unanswered question seems to be: are Bambi and Scrappy back together? Especially after their recent court-side outing.

A video she shared showed her son eating, sitting on his dad, unbothered! Meanwhile, Lil Scrappy was in the video bragging about his son wanting to chill with daddy!!
“Yall!!! I went to Miami for one day for work so my daughter & @adizthebam held kyrie down. Kyrie hadn’t seen me in about 36hrs which is a first! I rushed back thinking he was having a hard time 😩 Dad picked him up, but when I came to get him, this is how he reacts 😂 It was like he was disappointed! Lmao whyyyyy was he not excited to see me and eager to breast feed?? @reallilscrappy you was way too hype 🙄”
Bam Tells Shakira Hardy “Welcome To The Good Life”
On her Instagram Stories, Bambi shared a video of Kyrie writing on a piece of white paper with pencil, telling him “you doing good, good job hunny.” She tagged Shakira in the post, writing, “We starting early.” Hardy also wrote separatley on IGS that Kyrie did “so well” with Bambi. “I coulda stayed longer. Super grateful.”
In Shakira’s comment section, Bambi added, “Welcome to the good life my girl !!! Weekends are now yours 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾😂😂😂,” while Scrap said, “Daddy’s lil guy.” To Bam, Shakira responded, “Girlllll I been praying for this! Lemme go ahead and pre book flights.”
It’s unclear how long Bambi and Shakira have been getting their kids together. Lil Scrappy has five children, Emani with Erica Dixon; Breland, Xylo and Cali with Bambi and Kyrie with Shakira Hardy.
Last Year, Shakira Hardy Blasted Scrappy Over A Birthday Invite
In The Shade Room’s comment section, the roomies applauded Bambi, Shakira and Lil Scrappy for their family vibes. Shakira herself stepped in to say, “Blessed & SUPER GRATEFUL.” Last August, she had a more shady energy for her son’s father after he didn’t extend a birthday party invitation to infant son, Kyrie. At the time, Scrappy was reportedly dating Britney Sims. Hardy seemed to suggest, without naming her, that Sims blocked her invite. “She not even in her own kid’s life,” she wrote on Instagram.
Are Bambi & Lil Scrappy Dating?
By December, video of Lil Scrappy and Bambi at a concert went viral, as the internet started questioning their link-up. Days later, Britney Sims addressed internet speculations that Scrap had left her for Bam. She let the people know: “Nothing can be taken,” from her. Also, she said, “…To be clear , I do the arts and crafts around here ✂️ … I don’t get left, I do the leaving. 🫶🏽”
Amid that, Scrappy had also addressed kicking it with Bambi, writing, “Since it was such a big deal for me and Tha Bam to go watch our favorite singer rock the A, hope this reaches u well, I def love that we can kick it, not be beefing.”
Most recently, on April 25, the coparents sat together court side for the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks playoffs game in Atlanta. None of the photos available on Getty Images show Scrappy and Bambi cozy or intimate and it appears he performed after the first quarter of the NBA game.
