What I’m Packing for Spain

What I’m Packing for Spain

We’ve been counting down the days to our big trip of the summer: the better part of three weeks abroad, most of it spent by the water, moving between a few different stretches of coast and a couple of islands. On the itinerary: relaxed dinners that run past sunset, chill mornings, a lot of swimming, and afternoons where nobody checks the time.

Packing for a trip this long is a project in itself. Everything that made it into the suitcase had to be smart and intentional — dresses that pull double duty from boat to dinner, layers for days where there’s a breeze, and of course, a few statement styles that bring me joy. Find the full edit of everything that actually made the cut below!

What is the Best Lightweight Suiting for Hot Weather?

The Maaza Dress - OrigamiTech

Here’s a fun suit-related question: what is the best lightweight suiting for hot weather? A lot of the options we’ve mentioned in the past (BrooksCool, Uniqulo’s AirSense, Banana Republic’s Airstretch) don’t have suiting for women at the moment , which just leaves the linen options and reader favorite M.M.LaFleur’s OrigamiTech line (pictured at top).

But I’d love to hear from you guys — if you have to appear in court or go to another big meeting where a wrinkled linen suit isn’t ideal, what’s your attack plan?

Thursday’s Workwear Report: Pleated Cotton Maxi Dress

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

I had lunch with a friend last week, and when she arrived wearing this dress from Kensie, it was obviously the first thing I asked her about. The color is so vibrant, it felt like summer was starting the moment she walked into the restaurant.

I should note that the model makes the dress look like it’s mid-calf length, but my friend is 5’6” and it was a full maxi-length on her. Fortunately, the collar and pleating makes it look more work-appropriate than the maxi sundresses you may have in your closet.

The dress is $64.97 at Nordstrom Rack and comes in sizes 1X-3X. It’s also available in pink.

8 easy, cheap, and luxurious beauty upgrades

Published

Cheap and easy beauty upgrades

When gas and food prices rise, the beauty budget often gets cut first. This is one of life’s fun twists: Financial stress can leave you craving more personal care, precisely when you can’t afford it.

Fortunately, you can add indulgence to your routine without the price tag of a spa visit or a new cut and color. Try a few of these easy, cheap, and luxurious beauty upgrades to refresh your look without overspending.

Tint your lips

Upgrading your regular lip balm to a pretty, tinted shade requires less than $10 of cash and no extra effort. A hint of added color on those lips can light up your whole face. Plus, some formulations have hydrating oils to keep your kisser feeling soft and luxurious. Look for hydrating formulas with coconut oil, beeswax, or hyaluronic acid. Amazon has tons of options from reliable and up-and-coming brands.

Upgrade your nails

Fresh manicures are super satisfying because you can see and enjoy them. You can also admire a new lip balm, but staring at yourself in the mirror is a bit more inconvenient than taking a periodic peek at your nails.

There are many ways to upgrade your nails on a budget, including:

  • Invest $7 in cuticle oil and apply it daily.
  • Buy a new no-LED gel polish in a color you wouldn’t normally pick for $10.
  • If you’re handy with a nail file, spend $10 on a nail dip powder kit for salon-quality results at home.
  • Try press-on nails for $15 or less.

Read next: 6 gel manicure alternatives and which manicure is best for your nail health

Curl your lashes

An old-school lash curler is a surprisingly effective way to brighten your look. Use it with or without mascara for an easy, all-natural, wide-eyed look. Curled eyelashes draw attention to your eyes without color or clumps.

Even better, your cost-per-use on a budget eyelash curler, used daily, is only pennies.

Pro tip: Don’t bother with a more expensive curler, particularly a heated one. I invested in a heated lash curler once and found it to be no better than my cheaper, mechanical curler.

Try a tinted moisturizer

A tinted moisturizer with SPF adds a soft finish and sun protection without extra hassle. Some products also include anti-aging ingredients. You can opt for a standard tint or a BB or CC cream for more impact.

The options in this category are plentiful. You can spend as little as $8 for, say, Maybelline’s Dream BB Fresh perfecting beauty balm. Or, you could drop $80 on Perricone MD’s firming tinted moisturizer with SPF. I haven’t used the pricey products, but I have used the cheap ones — and they do the job. The Maybelline moisturizer recently kept me from getting burned under the Las Vegas sun, so I’m a believer.

Gloss your locks

At-home gloss and glaze treatments for your hair can smooth damaged ends and give your hair a shiny glow. Some are clear and others have added color — a nice option if you have grays to cover. Glosses aim to add a reflective, glassy quality to your hair. Depending on the condition of your hair today, this can be a big upgrade.

John Frieda’s Luminous Glaze Clear Shine Gloss and L’Oreal’s Glossing Lamination Hair Mask are both available for about $10.

Get a fancy hair tie

Your hair tie doesn’t have to be plain. Upgrading that black elastic band to something more like jewelry is a simple and powerful style move. Your jeans-and-t outfits will look more polished, and you’ll have the option to wear your hair back for dressier occasions.

Thanks to Amazon, you can browse cheap hair ties and clips for hours. Some options I’m loving right now are:

  • Velvet scrunchie
  • Gold-toned bracelet hair tie
  • Silver metal hair cuff
  • Faux pearl scrunchie

Make a scented moisturizer

You can quickly and cheaply upgrade a basic moisturizer by adding a heady essential oil. My latest creation is organic argan oil mixed with a few drops of rose geranium oil. I use this mixture as a moisturizer for my body, face, and hair. The geranium oil delivers a soft rose scent, only noticeable by those closest to me. If you like a stronger scent, you could add more essential oil.

Lavender, sweet orange, clove, or peppermint oil are a few good scent candidates, depending on your tastes. Make sure to use therapeutic grade oils in small quantities and test for skin sensitivity before dousing yourself.

Sleep on satin

A satin pillowcase feels luxurious and minimizes friction on your hair and skin while you sleep. Since I started sleeping on a satin pillowcase, my hair has been smoother and less frizzy. Sometimes I can even get an extra day from a blow-dry, which never would have been possible while sleeping on cotton. I don’t think the pillowcase has approved the appearance of my skin, but it sure feels nice to lay on.

This is another beauty upgrade that costs less than $10.

The Budget Fashionista takeaway

Tiny luxuries can deliver big payoffs. A tinted lip balm, a satin pillowcase, a shiny new hair accessory, or a $10 gloss treatment can make you feel more put together without adding much time or expense to your routine.

Pick one or two of these small beauty upgrades and give them a try. See if you feel more confident and comfortable throughout the day. Your wallet will stay happy, and you’ll (hopefully) realize luxury is more accessible than you thought.

Three Travel Storytellers Changing How We Explore The World

Published

Travel content has never been more accessible. Every scroll brings a new destination, hidden gem, or bucket-list experience to our screens. Yet among the sea of travel content creators, a few stand out for their ability to tell meaningful stories, inspire curiosity, and encourage travellers to look beyond the obvious. This month, we’re shining a spotlight on three creators who bring very different perspectives to travel: Pól Ó Conghaile, Tara Povey of Where Is Tara?, and Sarah Slattery, The Travel Expert.

Pól Ó Conghaile

Few travel creators combine journalistic depth with visual storytelling as effectively as Pól Ó Conghaile. Pól is the Travel Editor at the Irish Independent and a regular contributor to National Geographic Traveller. Over a career spanning more than two decades, he has become one of Ireland’s most respected voices in travel media.

Pól uses his Instagram presence to focus on the stories behind places. Rather than simply showcasing each location, Pól highlights the communities, cultures, and personalities that shape them. His content often reveals a side of destinations that guidebooks overlook, encouraging followers to travel more thoughtfully and connect more deeply with the places they visit.

Tara Povey, Where Is Tara?

Tara Povey, the creator behind Where Is Tara?, has built a loyal following through a blend of travel, adventure, wellness, and luxury experiences. Her content captures the excitement of exploration while remaining refreshingly honest and relatable.

From city breaks and wellness retreats to long-haul adventures, Tara’s content demonstrates that travel can be both aspirational and accessible. Her ability to balance beautiful imagery with practical insights has made her a trusted voice among travellers looking for authentic recommendations.

Sarah Slattery, The Travel Expert

Sarah offers followers a mix of destination inspiration, travel advice, accommodation highlights, and practical tips. Followers can discover new places while also gaining useful insights that make trips easier to plan and enjoy.

What sets Sarah apart is her approachable style. Content feels less like a glossy brochure and more like advice from a well-travelled friend, someone who knows the shortcuts, hidden gems, and insider tips that can elevate an ordinary trip into a memorable experience.

In a digital world filled with travel content, authenticity has become the ultimate currency. Pól Ó Conghaile, Tara Povey and Sarah Slattery each bring something different to the conversation.

Suit of the Week: BOSS

Published

light tealish greenish blue suit

light tealish greenish blue suitlight tealish greenish blue suit

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional. Also: we just updated our big roundup for the best women’s suits of 2026!

It’s feels like an age since we’ve featured a suit from Hugo Boss! I really like this color — would we call that pale teal? seaglass? The brand’s name for the color is “Reef,” which doesn’t seem descriptive. (Actually they probably wanted to avoid naming the color Algae, which, fair.)

In any event: this feels like a nice twist on a light blue suit, and I can see it being really lovely in spring and summer — and I even think you could bring it into fall with darker colors like a navy, black, brown, or even some almost-black shades of purple.

The suit is listed as being “water repellant,” which also confused me at first — the product page touts that you can “seamlessly transition from the boardroom to the taproom no matter what the weather has in store.” But… if you knew rain was in the forecast, wouldn’t you just bring an umbrella? But I do guess it’s a nice attribute to have!

My guess is I wasn’t the only one confused by the “water repellant” descriptor — because the suit is on a great sale. The blazer is 60% off with lots of sizes left; also marked down are matching pants in both an ankle cut and bootcut, as well as several dresses and matching tops. (There is also a double-breasted blazer and wide leg pant in the color, both full price.) The suiting pieces are $99-$649, all at Nordstrom.
