Good morning.

Today, the UK is getting a new Prime Minister – the seventh in just over 10 years.

Andy Burnham has twice sought the Labour Party leadership, losing out to Ed Miliband in 2010 and then Jeremy Corbyn in 2015.

But last week, the former mayor of Greater Manchester announced as the new Labour leader at a special conference on Friday. It followed the Makerfield MP emerging as the only eligible candidate, receiving 379 endorsements from his party’s MPs.

After weeks of frantic speculation, the so-called ‘King of the North’ has arrived in Westminster, ready to take on the top job.

Mr Burnham has spent nine years representing Greater Manchester as its mayor and quickly became one of the country’s most recognisable regional leaders.

He became, for many Mancunians, the public face of a city increasingly confident in speaking for itself.
