Aquaman star Jason Momoa and Adria Arjona at Whippet Inn

Jason Momoa, who played superhero Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe, and his girlfriend, the actor Adria Arjona, stopped for lunch at the Whippet Inn in North Street on Friday (January 30).

Taylor Lloyd, the restaurant’s assistant general manager, served the couple and said they were an “absolute delight”.

Speaking to The Press, Taylor said she first recognised Arjona, who is currently filming new thriller film Scorn in Leeds and has starred in Father of the Bride, Hit Man and Blink Twice, after recently watching one of her films.

But then she saw the 6ft 3in Momoa. “I recognised her then was like, Oh my God, it’s Aquaman! Aquaman’s here,” Taylor said. “We ran up to the kitchen and were like, ‘You’re going to be serving Aquaman!’ It was great.”

Taylor described the American couple as the “most delightful people that we’ve had”.

She said Momoa’s personal assistant phoned ahead to ask for a more private table.

The staff obliged, clearing an area in the bar, but Taylor said: “We didn’t realise there was a total A-lister coming in.”

Despite Momoa’s high profile onscreen appearances, which also include Game of Thrones and A Minecraft Movie, Taylor said the couple were “just like any other” – “but nicer”.

“They were the nicest people,” she said. “They had some good food, paid and left after saying thank you to everyone – they all remembered our names.”

The celebrities even enjoyed some of York’s finest delicacies. “They really enjoyed the Osprey by Brew York,” Taylor said. “I think he [Momoa] had about four or five pints of it – the whole table was drinking it; they loved it.”

Momoa was also reported to have been spotted in Shambles while enjoying a tour around York.
