Armed police called to ‘standoff’ in Bishop Auckland street
Police, including armed officers and the dog unit were called to Gibbon Street around 8am on Saturday (August 1), with a large cordon erected.
Residents told how they heard someone shouting at police.
One said: “From what I could gather, it was a standoff.
“Armed police were there, and there was a drone as well.”

The man, who did not want to be named, said a man was shouting down to officers from a window.
He said the area is generally quiet and he had not known anything to happen since moving to the street.
Other neighbours told how they found the situation unfolding outside around 8am.
The exact nature of the incident is not yet known.
Durham Police has been contacted for comment.
