The man climbed onto the roof as officers attempted to arrest him
Emergency services descended on a street in Atherton after a suspected thief climbed onto the roof of a house.
Police officers carried out an ‘arrest attempt’ on Seaforth Avenue at around 7.30am this morning (Monday, September 28). The arrest was in relation to alleged theft offences, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police.
When police arrived on the scene, the man scaled the roof of a house. Firefighters attended and a cordon was put in place across the street as crews responded.

The man, aged in his 30s, came down a ‘short time later’ and was detained by police officers. He has been taken into custody following the incident.
In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: “At around 7.30am today, officers conducted an arrest attempt in relation to alleged theft offences at a property on Seaforth Avenue, Atherton.
“The suspect briefly accessed the roof to the property, but came down a short time later and was detained. A man in his 30s remains in custody.”
