Australia, Indonesia Agree to Strengthen Creative Economy, Security Cooperation

Australia and Indonesia are looking to strengthen creative economy cooperation, as well as security cooperation with one another.
Minister for Home Affairs, Immigration and Citizenship, Cyber Security and the Arts Tony Burke met with key Indonesian ministers during his trip to the Asian country to discuss strategic agendas.
Strengthening Creative Economy Cooperation
According to a report by ANTARA News, Burke met with Indonesia’s Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya to discuss broadening collaboration in the creative economy.
“Our aim is to steer this cooperation toward helping Indonesian creative economy actors level up, connect with global markets and talents, and play a more active role in the international value chain,” said Harsya.
Joint projects between both countries in 2025 were highlighted during the meeting, including the 10th anniversary of the annual Australia-Indonesia Cinema Festival (FSAI), as well as the spice-focused business matching in Sydney.
Preparations for the 11th FSAI and the Australia Awards Indonesia short course program in animation were also discussed during the meeting.
Strengthening Security Cooperation
Burke also met with Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago to discuss priority security issues.
According to RRI, Burke emphasized that both countries have to do more to ensure the safety and security of their people.
“What we have achieved so far is good, but it is not enough,” he said.
The two ministers reportedly discussed matters concerning domestic and regional security, maritime security, illegal migration, and counterterrorism efforts, among others.
