Barry Manilow Announces Break From Ongoing Tour To Rest

Barry Manilow has announced he’s hitting pause on his current world tour to rest and recuperate.

The Mandy crooner has been candid about the health issues he’s faced in recent history, after undergoing treatment for lung cancer last year, resulting in him cancelling a string of live shows.

Earlier in the summer, Barry resumed his The Last Concert tour, much to the delight of his many “Fanilows” but announced on Wednesday that he’d be taking a couple of months off.

“I want you to be the first to know that we’re going to take a quick break,” he told his social media followers.

“We just finished a fantastic summer tour. 29 shows in 68 days. The shows were fantastic. The audiences were fantastic. And I sounded fantastic.”

“But it seems that we were pushing a little too hard,” he admitted. “Now we all need to sit down and shut up.”

He added that he and his team would be taking a break until they play Las Vegas on 8 October, when he assured his fans he’d be “singing like a bird”.

“I hope to see you then,” he enthused.

Days earlier, the 83-year-old cancelled two shows due to what was described as “technical and vocal problems”.

Last year, the Grammy winner underwent surgery to have part of his lung removed, after being diagnosed with stage one lung cancer.

“You just don’t even think about [how fragile life is]. And suddenly, you have lung cancer,” Barry told People magazine in March. “But I’m still here.

“I’m not all here; there’s part of me that isn’t here – they took out a part of me, and now I’ve got to figure out, ‘What do I do?’.”

He added that beating cancer had “really made me take a stock of my life”, recalling: “This made me stop and think about: Have I done what I wanted to do, and have I made people happy? Have I been a good friend?

“All of those cornball things that I’ve read for all of my life, I started to think about that, too. It really did stop me in my tracks.”
