The creator and actress admitted she sometimes has to be reined in over her storyline ideas.

Lucia Keskin, star of Things You Should Have Done, has confessed that she occasionally pushes the boundaries with dark storylines in the BBC sitcom.

The sitcom, which Lucia both created and stars in, first hit our screens in 2024, with a second series making its debut just last week.

The show centres around Lucia’s character, a “stay-at-home daughter” who is left to fend for herself following the death of her parents.

After her parents tragically die in a car accident in the opening episode, she embarks on a journey to complete their list of “Things You Should Have Done”, all while trying to balance modern life and her eccentric family.

As the sole inheritor of her parents’ house, Lucia grapples with finding employment and learning to drive, whilst her Aunt Karen (played by Selin Hizli) tries to claim the house’s inheritance, reports the Mirror.

Discussing the sitcom’s dark humour and the fine line between tragedy and comedy, Lucia recently admitted that she sometimes needs to be reined in when it comes to exploring darker storylines, as she can occasionally push things too far.

She shared: “That’s where I have to have people tell me because I will just go as dark as possible and I see no issue, and they’re like, ‘no, not that, you can’t do that’.”

Lucia continued to RadioTimes.com: “But I just think the best, most awful things in life are the best to get through with laughing and taking the piss out of them. I’ve always viewed it that way.

“I’ll just say ‘Yeah, let’s joke about that’ and they’re like ‘No, actually, we can’t.’ I did get away with quite a lot, but I was trying to push it.”

When the second season of Things You Should Have Done was announced, Lucia quipped: “The BBC gave us the devastating news that we have to go again for series two which means I might actually have to work again. Gutted.”

Producer Steve Monger added: “We go again! Another trip to sunny Ramsgate by way of Chi’s brilliant imagination. Very much look forward to bringing the dysfunctional family back to your screens.”

Viewers hailed the series “quirky” yet “amazing”, with one writing: “AMAZING show!! I binged all 6 episodes in one night and was so disappointed once it had finished! I don’t think I’ve laughed at a sitcom like that in ages!!”

Another said: “I love this show. It’s weird, quirky and super funny if this is your kind of humour. It’s a show that isn’t meant to be taken too seriously and that’s what I like best about it. Chi is a pretty daft, hapless star character and it somehow works. It’s a great watch when you really want to zone out from real life for a while.”

A third wrote: “Great show! Watched all six episodes in one night. Need to see more.”

Someone else added: “Absolutely loved every single episode. So many funny one liners and great characters. Binged watched it all in one day because I loved it so much.”
