One person has lost their life and 14 others have been left injured after a vehicle ploughed into a crowd near an LGBTQ event.
Emergency services descended on Tiergarten park in Berlin after the vehicle struck a number of people at one of Europe’s biggest Pride celebrations.
The event was abandoned in the German capital on Saturday, just hours after it had got underway, as police launched an urgent hunt for the suspect or suspects involved.
Officers, who declined to confirm the exact number of casualties, urged everyone in a post on X to vacate the area immediately.
Shortly afterwards, police confirmed that a car had driven into Tiergarten park, close to the route of the pride march, striking several people, reports the Daily Star.
Police were unable to confirm the exact number of officers deployed to the scene, but stated it was “definitely a lot of police”.
The post from Berlin Police reads: “We are currently deployed with numerous police forces as well as rescue units from the Berlin Fire Department in the Großer Tiergarten.
“It is presumed that a vehicle has driven into the Tiergarten here, has struck and injured several people. The injured are currently being treated by rescue personnel.
“We are conducting an intensive manhunt for suspects.”
Footage from the scene shows crowds dispersing while ambulances rush to the area.
Hundreds of thousands of people had gathered in Berlin on Saturday to take part in the city’s pride parade, known in Germany as Christopher Street Day.
