Alison Gibbens, 60, was last seen on North Gyle Avenue in Edinburgh at around 10.30am on Monday.
A body has been found in the search for a missing woman who vanished four days ago.
Alison Gibbens was last seen on North Gyle Avenue in Edinburgh at around 10.30am on Monday, January 26. A multi-agency search was launched in a bid to find the 60-year-old at the beginning of the week.
HM Coastguard and volunteers from the RNLI were drafted in to support Police Scotland in their efforts. Sadly, officers have now confirmed that a body was found in the Gogar area of Edinburgh on Friday.
The body has yet to be formally identified, however, Alison’s heartbroken family have been informed. It’s understood the death is not being treated as suspicious.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Friday, January 30, a body was found in the Gogar area of Edinburgh during searches for a missing woman.
“The body has yet to be formally identified, however, the family of 60-year-old Alison Gibbens, who was reported missing from North Gyle Avenue around 10.30am on Monday, January 26, has been informed. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Earlier this week we told how an enquiry launched into her disappearance had revealed a possible sighting at the junction of Whitehouse Road and Gamekeeper’s Road at around 2.45pm on Monday.
The woman, believed to be Alison, was seen wearing a black, three-quarter length jacket and a scarf.
Prior to the tragic discovery, Inspector Caroline Herbert said the force were “growing increasingly concerned” for Alison and steps were being taken to get to the bottom of where she was.
