Bolton to see sleet and snow tonight as temperatures drop
The day began murky over higher ground, with low cloud and pockets of drizzle persisting into the early afternoon.
Most parts of Bolton have remained dry, though temperatures have struggled to climb above 3–5 °C, with a brisk wind making it feel even colder.
The Met Office says rain and sleet will become more widespread from late afternoon, with the chance of precipitation rising to 70–80 per cent by 8–10 pm.
Overnight, outbreaks of rain and drizzle are expected to spread across the region from around 7–8 pm.
On higher ground, these showers are likely to fall as sleet and snow, while lower areas of Bolton should mainly see rain before it eases in the early hours.
Sleet and snow showers are expected to be most frequent between 9 pm and 1 am, with temperatures dropping to around 2 °C by dawn.
Wednesday is forecast to begin damp, with rain and hill snow gradually clearing northwards during the morning.
Conditions should become generally drier by the afternoon, with a chance of a few brighter spells, and temperatures rising slightly to around 7–8 °C.
Looking further ahead, the Met Office predicts a dull end to the week, with limited sunshine, occasional rain and breezy conditions.
