Suffolk Police has apologised for not updating the public on their search for missing three-year-old Noah, who was last seen near a playground in Brantham, Suffolk

More than 100 people have reportedly joined the search for a missing three-year-old boy in Suffolk.

Police are urgently appealing for help to locate Noah, who was last seen at approximately 3pm yesterday afternoon, Tuesday September 15. Noah is reported to have run off down an alleyway after visiting the playground in Merriam Close, Brantham.

Police described Noah as white, with curly ginger hair, and said he would not respond to his name being called, according to the BBC.

The youngster became separated from a relative after visiting the playground in Merriam Close, Suffolk Police said. Now more than 100 people are said to have joined the searches, the BBC reports.

A police spokesperson commented on the original Facebook post: “Thank you all for your comments, it is overwhelming to read the support people are offering.

“I apologise that we haven’t been able to reply sooner however I am sure you appreciate the volume of resources that are assisting with this and the sheer volume of contact from the public that our staff and officers are dealing with.

“As soon as there is any update, we will post on here. Thank you again.”

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “We are assisting Suffolk Constabulary with an incident at Brantham by sending an HM Coastguard helicopter and Coastguard Rescue Teams from Felixstowe and Holbrook.”

The UK government is in discussions about joining a global investment bank, aimed at raising more money for defence spending.

Chancellor John Healey is considering a bid to join the Defence, Security and Resilience Bank (DSRB), not long after his predecessor Rachel Reeves rejected the idea.

Canada has been leading efforts to establish the bank, which supporters say would enable governments to borrow at lower costs to increase military spending.

Treasury officials stressed that no decision has been made. A government spokesperson said it was “fully committed to working alongside our international partners to scale defence industrial capacity.”

Before he cancelled commitments due to the death of his father, Prime Minister Andy Burnham had been due to meet Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney in the UK on Wednesday.

Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte is also travelling to the UK for his first meeting with the prime minister.

He is giving a speech in Oxfordshire, where he is expected to say the UK is “serious about security” and praise the country’s efforts supporting Ukraine.

He will also say that Nato will “not be intimidated by Russia’s campaign of hostile actions.

“Russia wants to stop us helping Ukraine – but their actions will only lead us to do more for Ukraine.”

It comes after Nato forces shot down a drone over Lithuania in the latest security scare on the alliance’s eastern flank, where tensions remain high amid Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

And on Tuesday Denmark also accused a Russian warship of firing two emergency flares at one of its helicopters while it was tracking the vessel in the Baltic Sea.

Tony Montgomery passed away at the scene after being hit by a Mini Cooper on the M8 near Glasgow Airport.

A dad who died after being hit by a car on the M8 near Glasgow Airport has been pictured for the first time as tributes pour in from his family.

Emergency crews rushed to a stretch of the busy motorway near junction 29 around 11.45pm on Sunday. An alarm was raised after police received a report that a male pedestrian had been struck by a black Mini Cooper.

Upon arrival to the scene near Paisley, a 45-year-old man was pronounced dead. His next of kin have been made aware and no other injuries were reported.

The deceased has now been named locally as Tony Montgomery from Dumbarton. He leaves behind his wife Louise and daughters Chloe and Murrin.

Tributes have flooded in online for the Rangers fan from those closest to him during this tragic time.

His sister-in-law, Charlene Connelly, said: “Shine bright Tony bro.”

Andy McLeish continued: “Such sad news. I send out my deepest sympathy to Tony Montgomery’s family and friends. One of the shires good people. Rest easy Tony. Thoughts and prayers to the family.”

Gary Drain wrote: “Rest easy Tony Montgomery. Castlehill have lost a good one. You always had time for everyone. My kids always loved a laugh with you. You were a true legend. Fly high up there, bro.”

Tara Towie added: “Rest easy Tony. We will miss you. The best pal, father and friend we could all know. Life in the end was not easy for you but you will be remembered for the family man you were. You were a big kid at heart and always loved a carry on. You taught my kids a thing or two. We will remember the good times.”

The road was closed following the crash to allow for investigation work to be carried out and re-opened around 8.55am on Monday, September 14.

Before then, drivers faced rushed hour chaos and were advised to use another route after the busy motorway was closed in both directions. Traffic Scotland was issuing updates and details on alternative routes through the night.

Officers expressed their condolences to the man’s loved ones and are urging anyone who saw the crash, has dash-cam footage from the time and place of the incident, or has any other details on what happened to come forward.

Sergeant Jack Swindells said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time, and our enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash and has yet to speak with officers to come forward.

“I’d also ask that those driving in the area at the time with dash-cam footage review this to see if it has captured anything that could assist with our investigation.”

Multiple inmates have been stabbed and slashed during a major brawl at the federal jail in New York City that is currently housing UnitedHealthcare CEO killer Luigi Mangione and disgraced former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Federal officials confirmed to The Independent that the massive fight took place on the morning of September 6 at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York. The New York Daily News first reported on the brawl, which their sources said was gang-related.

Members of the Trinitarios gang fought another gang on the seventh floor of the jail’s west building, the Daily News’ sources said, adding that a total of at least 20 people had joined in the brawl.

“Several incarcerated individuals were medically assessed and treated for minor injuries at the facility, while other incarcerated individuals sustained injuries requiring outside medical treatment,” Donald Murphy, a spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, told The Independent.

Murphy did not confirm the exact number of inmates involved in the fight and the number of those wounded remains unknown. The exact injuries that the wounded inmates sustained are also not clear.

Murphy told The Independent that jail employees were able to contain the incident without being injured themselves, adding, “At no time was the public in danger.” The incident is still under investigation.

MDC Brooklyn, as the jail is commonly referred to, is known for holding infamous inmates like Mangione and Maduro.

Mangione, 28, is currently awaiting sentencing in the jail after he admitted last month to fatally shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on the streets of Manhattan in 2024. Thompson’s murder shocked the nation as the New York City Police Department tracked down the Ivy League graduate, with some admiring the killer for what they saw as a stance against the health insurance industry.

“I shot Mr. Thompson and he died,” Mangione said in court on August 14. “I understood that my actions would place him in fear of death or bodily injury. I knew what I was doing was illegal.”

Maduro, 63, and his wife Cilia Flores, 69, are currently awaiting trial at the jail on drug trafficking charges, following a stealth mission by American forces to capture the couple from their Caracas home in early January. Their trial is set for next June.

Both have pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from an alleged conspiracy to transport thousands of tons of cocaine to the U.S.

Maduro “and his co-conspirators have, for decades, partnered with some of the most violent and prolific drug traffickers and narco-terrorists in the world, and relied on corrupt officials throughout the region, to distribute tons of cocaine to the United States,” their indictment reads.

MDC Brooklyn has a history of violence, including the reported February 2025 stabbing of Karl Jordan Jr., who was convicted and then acquitted of the 2002 murder of New York rap star Jam Master Jay. Jordan survived the attack.

In September 2024, the Justice Department announced charges against nine inmates in five separate cases involving violence at MDC Brooklyn, including the murder of Uriel Whyte on June 7, 2024, and the murder of Edwin Cordero on July 17, 2024.

“Violence will not be tolerated in our federal jails,” Breon Peace, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said at the time. “As the only federal pretrial facility in New York City, MDC-Brooklyn houses pretrial inmates accused of some of the most serious crimes in our region.”

“Let these charges serve as a warning to those who would engage in criminal conduct behind bars, and anyone else who facilitates those crimes: your conduct will be exposed, and you will be held accountable,’ Peace said.

Police are searching for the 13-year-old

The mum of a missing girl from Bolton has issued a heartfelt plea for her daughter to ‘come home’. Lillia has been missing from Bolton since Friday (September 11).

The 13-year-old was last spotted at Piccadilly Gardens bus station just before 11pm that evening.

Lillia is described as, 5 foot 5 inches tall, with a slim build, brown hair and glasses. She was last seen wearing a black zip-up hooded top, light blue baggy jeans and a black Nike backpack.

Lillia’s mother Jessica has issued a personal appeal for her: “Lillia, you’re not in any trouble, I’m really, really worried. It’s been four nights now and you need to be safe. Please come home, we all love you very much.”

Viewers of the last ever episode of 7 Up have been left ‘in bits’ as the show’s favourites reflected on how their lives have changed for the final time. 

The grand finale, 70 Up, aired tonight – 62 years after the first documentary appeared on our television screens in 1964. 

And fans were barely two minutes into the programme before the tears were flowing, with viewers taking to social media to admit they were ‘already crying’. 

Audiences were also devastated to see Yorkshire lad Nick Hitchon appear on the documentary just three days before he died of throat cancer in July 2023. 

One person posted: ‘I was in tears even from the opening titles. Such a touching and interesting series.’ 

’70 Up has been on two minutes and already crying seeing the past clips knowing it is the last one,’ another added. A third said: ‘I’m filling up already.’ 

Viewers swooned over Liverpudlian Neil Hughes, who has perhaps led the most chaotic life of the original 14 participants, who began sharing their lives on the series aged just seven. 

Neil was homeless for 28 Up, in a council house by 35 Up, and had a brief marriage that had ended by 63 Up. He thinks he’s probably always suffered from depression.

But for 70 Up, Neil revealed that he now lives in France, in the same house that he came to for many years on holiday.

He said while he may appear to be a hoarder, everything in the property ‘has a purpose’.

Neil also revealed that he is planning on retiring but is questioning where the money will come from. 

‘Neil, he must be protected,’ one person posted on X. ‘Neil is such an intelligent man who just lost his way. Very sad,’ another added. 

A third said: ‘Neil has always seemed like a questing, restless person. And far from not having done much, he has done more than most other people do in a lifetime. 

‘In a strange way, it looks to me as something of a triumph of will.’

The series 7 Up was helmed by director Michael Apted from 1970 until his death in 2021. For the finale, Academy Award-winning director Asif Kapadia stepped in. 

There have been a total of ten films which explore how the participants’ lives have changed in the intervening time periods.

Most of the stars have appeared every seven years, but some have missed episodes, dropped out or been unhappy with their portrayal.

Public schoolboy and lawyer John Brisby said in 70 Up he felt he’d been ‘set up to represent an outmoded class system that had no validity in the modern world’. 

Meanwhile, East End girl Jackie Bassett also appeared. 

She said she was initially picked because ‘I wouldn’t stop talking. In our house, if you didn’t speak up you didn’t get heard. I don’t think I’ve changed.’

Jackie married at 19, divorced, remarried, moved to Scotland, had three kids, divorced again and was a single mother. Her fellow East Ender Lynn died in 2013. 

Sue, also from the East End, married at 24 but was divorced by the age of 35. She has now remarried. 

In 70 Up, she revealed she has now retired after holding a series of office jobs. 

She said, however, she needs to find herself a ‘new direction’ as she sometimes doesn’t know what to do with herself.  

Public schoolboy Bruce, who wanted to be a missionary, also appeared on tonight’s show, as well as Symon, who has fostered more than 120 children and has 12 grandchildren.

Viewers also heard from Charles, a former participant who stopped appearing in the films after the age of 21.

Fenland District Council has approved hundreds of new homes off a lane in March – but residents fear infrastructure will not be able to cope

Fenland residents are worried about plans for hundreds of new homes in an area already prone to sewage backflows. Anglian Water said last year they would look into problems with the sewage system on Barkers Lane in March – an issue residents say has been a problem for at least 20 years.

Hazel Harwin, who has lived on the lane for 30 years, said: “We’ve had years where our gardens have been filled with sewage all the way to the bottom. It flows down the garden – I had to take my dog to the vet because it licked its paws. They never listen, it’s been going on for years. It’s actual sewage running down the road.”

The 62-year-old said the sewage spills out of a manhole cover every time there is heavy rain, leaving the area covered in toilet paper.

Zoe Wakelen said the sewage has even flooded the area before and called it “absolutely disgusting”. The 42-year-old said: “We have terrible sewage problems – backflow sewage can come up toilets, sinks and gardens. Down the lane there’s a massive drain and that overflows.”

With hundreds of new homes planned off the lane, residents fear the infrastructure won’t be able to cope, though the developers have said they will not be connected to the same “constrained” sewage network. These include plans for 130 and 425 homes to the south of the lane which have been approved in recent years.

Concerns have been raised around the impact of this on traffic and the safety of school children leaving nearby Neale-Wade Academy.

Ms Wakelen said: “That road is absolutely gridlocked and children dart across the road. I’ve actually seen a girl get knocked over in the road – thank God she was ok. They’re kids, they see a gap and they just go.

“The roads can’t take it – driving through March at peak time takes 30 minutes to get from one end to the other. If there’s an accident on the bypass it can take hours to get through March.”

Nikki and Stuart Gray, both 49, said they’re lucky enough to not be affected by the sewage problems, but also expressed concern over traffic.

Stuart said: “Traffic is a concern especially if they’re using Barkers Lane – it’s a bit of a nightmare trying to pull out of there anyway.”

Nikki said: “When the school is open the parents park on every side of the lane, you can be sat there for quite a while as it’s a staggered junction.”

A spokesperson for Fenland District Council said they need to make “difficult decisions” when weighing planning applications to meet housebuilding targets.

They said: “All planning applications go through a rigorous process of evaluation before a decision is made taking into account planning policy and guidance. This involves consultation with relevant bodies and the public. Where permission is granted, especially in relation to large scale developments, planning conditions are imposed, or legal agreements signed, to manage details such as how developers will meet infrastructure needs.

“For large housing schemes, it’s usual for this to include a requirement for submission of acceptable management plans for aspects including traffic, surface and foul drainage and other matters.”

Anglian Water has been approached for comment.

Plans to put no waiting at any time restrictions in North Lane, Haxby, have been drawn up by City of York Council.

A council report on the plans stated they aimed to stop parked cars from blocking the road.

But 23 objections were lodged against the plans claiming it would cause problems for visitors to St Mary’s Church and move parking issues to other parts of the street.

Council officials have recommended taking no further action and studying issues along the full length of North Lane in more detail.

It comes as the plans are set to go before a council transport meeting for a decision on Tuesday, September 22.

The proposals would see double yellow lines put on the eastbound side of North Lane, between a cut through leading to Acadia Grove and just after one going to Hawthorn Avenue.

A report on the plans stated they were first advertised in November 2025 and consulted on in July this year.

Four comments were lodged in support of the plans along with the 23 against them.

Haxby Sports Bar stated they supported the plans to tackle issues caused by cars parking in the street which affect its deliveries.

The business stated: “At present, there are cars parked along both sides of the road from The Village and it narrows past Church Lane to our premises and thereafter becomes one way, heading from the opposite direction.

“We have had issues with delivery trucks being unable to get into and out of our car park, some reversing a considerable distance along a perilously narrow road, with parked vehicles everywhere.”

But one objector claimed the plans would cause problems for elderly and disabled people visiting St Mary’s Church.

They stated: “The proposed restrictions will make it much more difficult for many who access church services and events run in the hall by the church and other voluntary groups.

“The consequences of the restrictions will be made worse by residents vehicles displaced from the restricted area which might be expected to park starting at the end of the restriction.”

Breaking into the Arsenal first team will be a tough task for Dowman especially when the Premier League champions are in such fine form.

Arsenal have won all seven games this season, across four competitions.

Dowman was an unused substitute in four of those games, and not involved for the other two, before playing all 90 minutes against Ipswich Town.

The Gunners have played the same attackers in each league game so far – Bukayo Saka, Christos Tzolis, Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz.

But Dowman, especially considering Arteta turned to him in key moments in last season’s title race, will hope to gain more of a supporting role.

“He’s just 16 so he needs a lot of coaching, especially tactically. But I can’t take anything away from him. He’s always keen to learn. We’ll keep helping him.”

Quite possibly the best 16-year-old in the world, it is not unthinkable that he could earn his way into England’s Euro 2028 thinking.

In fact there was even a debate about whether he should be going to the World Cup earlier this year.

“He is a real superstar,” said former England defender Conor Coady on Sky Sports.

“A 16-year-old boy should not be doing this. He has got no better manager than Arteta to look after him. You want him to be looked after properly. If he plays every game at this age, he won’t be scoring goals like this.”

And it comes on the day it emerged highly rated 15-year-old striker JJ Gabriel is on the verge of leaving Manchester United.

Gabriel had been expected to make his debut in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie with Brighton.

That will probably deny him the opportunity to break up the stat that the three youngest players to score in the League Cup for a Premier League side all did so for Arsenal.

They are Cesc Fabregas (16y 212d v Wolves, 2003), Dowman (16y 258d v Ipswich) and Jack Wilshere (16y 266d v Sheffield United, 2008).
