BTS Won’t Submit Music For 2027 Grammy Awards

K-pop superstars BTS have said that they won’t be submitting their music for consideration in 2027’s Grammy Awards, set to take place in February.

Each of the band’s seven members (RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook) posted the same message to their Instagram accounts on Wednesday 29 July.

Translated from Korean, the text reads: “We have decided not to submit for Grammy consideration this year. We hope our music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language. We thank [our fan base] Army and everyone who has always stood by us.”

The group was expected to be in the running for multiple of the award show’s prizes following the release of comeback album Arirang and US no.1 lead single Swim.

The news comes a month after the Recording Academy unveiled several new categories at the Grammy Awards, including Best Asian Pop Music Performance.

This is described by the Academy as a way to recognise “artistic excellence in Asian pop music performances originating from or widely recognised within Asian markets, including but not limited to K-pop, J-pop and C-pop, with meaningful use of one or more Asian languages”.

Per the BBC, K-pop fans had “mixed” reactions to its introduction, with some suggesting it might “pigeonhole” Asian acts.

The category also requires “meaningful use of one or more Asian languages,” while 80% of Arirang’s lyrics are in English.

BTS, who performed at the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Halftime Show, are currently on their Arirang World Tour.

Though they’ve been nominated for multiple Grammys, they’ve never won one.
