Car bursts into flames on Edinburgh street sparking emergency response

Fire crews raced to the city centre where a vehicle was at the centre of a blaze. They remain at the scene now.

A car has burst into flames on a street in Edinburgh this afternoon, sparking an emergency response. The blaze erupted on Great King Street in the city’s New Town at around 12.30pm on Sunday, February 1.

Emergency services, including Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, rushed to the city centre and immediately got to work trying to fight the growing flames.

Three fire engines were dispatched and remain on the scene. A spokesperson from the force told Edinburgh Live that no one was hurt.

An image from the scene shows a vehicle engulfed in flames while parked beside a row of other cars in front of a block of flats. Smoke billows from the motor but the others beside it look unaffected and undamaged.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “I can confirm we are in attendance on Great King Street.

“Three appliances are now in attendance after we received a call at 12.32pm on Sunday, February 1 of a car fire.

“Crews remain at the scene while the incident is ongoing. There have not been any casualties at this time. The cause of the fire is not currently known.”
