Opposing fans clashed outside the Celtic Supporters Club on London Road in ugly scenes around an hour before kick off.
Shocking footage has emerged of Utrecht fans clashing with Celtic supporters ahead of their Europa League tie at Parkhead on Thursday night.
There was huge police presence in Glasgow city centre earlier today due to the Dutch side’s ultras’ presence. Despite that, opposing fans clashed outside the Celtic Supporters Club on London Road in ugly scenes around an hour before kick off.
Footage shared on social media showed fireworks being launched towards Hoops supporters outside the building. Emergency vehicles could be seen in the background as the explosives sent the groups of fans scattering.
A second video showed a group of men dressed all in black chanting “Utrecht” being chased down a road by a number of uniformed officers.
There were also reports that fireworks were fired in the direction of police.
It’s currently unclear if anyone was injured during the disorder and if anyone has yet been arrested. Police Scotland have been contacted by the Record for comment.
Celtic went on to win the match 4-2 thanks to goals from Benjamin Nygren, Arne Engels and Auston Trusty. The result was enough to see the Hoops progress to the Europa League playoffs, where they will take on either Ferencvaros or Stuttgart.
The draw will take place in Nyon, Switzerland at 12pm on Friday, January 30. The matches are scheduled for February 19 and February 26.
