Tommy Banks, who owns Roots in York’s Marygate, the Black Swan at Oldstead and the Abbey Inn in Byland, has added York Racecourse to his list of venues for one day only.

The chef is preparing to bring “Roots to the Races” as he takes over the racecourse’s kitchen during its Summer Music Saturday on Saturday, June 27. The day will also see singer Becky Hill headline the course’s stage.

An event spokesperson said Tommy will be “cooking up a delicious feast for our guests”, with guests able to enjoy a “specially curated menu showcasing Tommy’s fantastic culinary skills”.

The “Roots at the Races with Tommy Banks” event does, however, come with a hefty price tag – £640 per person.

That price includes full access to the county stand area, an arrival glass of champagne and canapes, followed by a four-course lunch created and prepared by Tommy, an afternoon tea also created by the chef, and finished with a takeaway pie for the Becky Hill concert. The ticket also includes a carpark pass, complimentary race card and betting couriers serving the table.
