The post office is inside a shop which is set to close early next year
Peterborough city centre is set to lose its only Post Office. The Post Office is currently inside TG Jones, formerly WHSmith on Bridge Street. However, the shop is due to close early next year.
WHSmith stores underwent a major restructuring when it changed its name to TG Jones in 2025, resulting in all stores across the country changing their names. As part of the restructuring plans, some stores closed or are due to close at a later date.
The TG Jones branch in Peterborough, which is the city’s only store, is is expected to close on January 9, 2027 following a closing down sale. It means the Post Office, which is based inside the store, will close as a result.
A TG Jones spokesperson said: “As we work to secure the long-term future of TG Jones, we have confirmed that our Peterborough shop will close. We know this will be disappointing news for our colleagues, customers, and the local community.
“Our focus now is on supporting those affected and continuing to serve customers throughout the closure period. We would like to thank all of our colleagues for their commitment and the contribution they have made to TG Jones.”
It was recently announced that Cambridge’s only TG Jones store was closing. The city branch, which was formerly on Market Street, officially closed its doors on September 14.
