Club 55- strip club in Micklegate, York, lodges licence bid
The objection lodged against the application from Club 55, above Ziggy’s in Micklegate, stated the incident illustrated the often alcohol-fuelled behaviour which took place outside the venue.
The objector added that mostly male patrons gathered outside the venue made young women walking home and families passing it to get to holiday accommodation uncomfortable.
A City of York Council report on Club 55’s application stated there were no legal reasons compelling refusal and approving it would keep the amount of venues at the locally-set limit of one.
It comes as the venue’s application to renew its sex establishment licence is set to go before the council’s Licensing and Regulatory Committee on Thursday, February 5.

Sex venues are legally required to renew their licences once a year, with Club 55’s application approved in February last year without objections.
North Yorkshire Police withdrew an objection last year following an inspection the previous December and it faced no other opposition.
The inspection took place after Club 55 received a warning for not following licensing rules a month earlier.
The venue offers lap dances and pole shows and it opens from 9pm to 3am on Fridays and Saturdays and from 6pm to 4.30am on race days.
In the only objection lodged against this year’s application, a Micklegate resident stated the venue was in an area home to residents and visited by families and tourists.
The objector added it would be a shame if people started avoiding Micklegate because of it.

They stated: “There is also concern about antisocial behaviour outside the venue.
“We have witnessed an extremely violent attack between two groups of men waiting to go in, which led to at least 10 officers an ambulance attending and an arrest.
“An establishment which attracts large groups of men following heavy drinking sessions potentially lays itself open to this kind of behaviour, especially on race days when drinking starts much earlier in the day.
“Having a sex establishment inside a Grade II*-listed building in one of York’s most important historical streets has a detrimental impact on the street and city’s reputation as a leading tourist destination.”
The council’s report stated the police had not objected to the venue’s bid to renew its licence.
It added the venue’s owners could appeal the decision at a Magistrate’s Court if the councillors refuse the application.
