Combine harvester catches fire in Barlby, North Yorkshire

The alarm was raised at 4.18pm after the fire broke out on Market Weighton Road, Barlby.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service crews from Malton and Selby rushed to the scene where the driver of the combine harvester had fought the fire with an extinguisher.

A spokesperson said that crews cooled hotspots using a hose reel jet.

Earlier in the day, fire crews from Thirsk and Ripon responded to a report of a forklift battery on fire in a warehouse on Dalton Airfield Industrial Estate, Thirsk, at 11.30am.

The fire was out when crews arrived so they monitored hot spots and dampened down the area using one hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera until the battery temperature had reduced to safe levels.
