Crash on A1(M) southbound near Northallerton sparks delays

Traffic was moving at an average speed of around five mph, on the A1M southbound near Northallerton around 10.20am today after the crash.

Delays continued to increase between junction 51 near the A684 at Leeming Bar and Bedale and junction 50 near the A61 at Ripon, with AA reporting delays of up to 40 minutes.

An eyewitness caught in the congestion spotted one police car and an ambulance at the scene.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirmed it was called to the crash at 10.23am on Thursday, January 30.

A spokesperson said: “We received an emergency call at 10.23am this morning (30 January) to report a road traffic collision on the A1 between junctions 51 and 50.

“Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene, but no patients were conveyed to hospital.”

National Highways said one lane was closed following the crash and said it was expected to clear between 12.30pm and 12.45pm.
