‘Dangerous man’ raped teenage girl in Cambridge after getting into bed with her

The man denied raping the victim

A “dangerous man” who raped a teenage girl in Cambridge has been sent to prison. Steven Coulson, 32, got into bed with the girl in the early hours of January 8, 2024.

He began touching her and she asked him to stop but he continued to touch her. When she tried to get out of the bed Coulson pulled her back and raped her, according to Cambridgeshire Police.

Police were informed and the 32-year-old handed himself in at Parkside Police Station on January 10. In interview, he denied raping the victim.

However, on Thursday, August 6, Coulson, of Newton Close, Cottenham, South Cambridgeshire, was jailed for nine years and nine months, having been found guilty of rape and assault a female 13 and over by penetration with part of the body at Cambridge Crown Court.

Coulson was also handed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and restraining order as well as being placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Detective Sergeant Molly Halksworth, who investigated, said: “Coulson is a dangerous man who took advantage of the victim so I’m glad he’s been brought to justice. I would also like to pay tribute to the victim’s bravery in coming forward and supporting us with a prosecution.”
