Darcy Lever residents left in shock after death of teenager in crash
The crash, believed to have involved one vehicle hit a tree, was reported on Radcliffe Road at around 10.53pm.
Police said at the time that four people were injured, some of them with life-threatening injuries, and confirmed on Sunday afternoon that the incident is now fatal following the death of one of the people in the car, believed to be aged 19.
Police said that a Toyota Yaris travelling east along the road where it appeared to have lost control and crashed into a tree at the side of the road.
Jayden Truman, of Radcliffe Road, said: “I was asleep when it all happened, there was police and three or four ambulances, a couple of people from the fire service.
“I was asleep, but my mate had seen it about midnight.”
Another witness, working nearby, said: “All we have seen is police cars in the area, it was at about 11 we noticed.”
A witness said: “We saw the incident; there were a lot of emergency services at about 11.30am, there was just a lot of chaos, but it is a shame.”
Although the cause of the incident is subject to an investigation and is not known at this stage, the incident has raised fresh concerns about the route.
Residents voiced concerns about the road, including the speed of some cars they’ve witnessed travelling on the road.
Mr Truman added: “About two or three weeks ago another crash happened.
“I would say people speed up and down here all the time; I would say get traffic lights installed.”
One resident added: “On this road, they fly up and down there”
As reported, police are still appealing for witnesses following the crash.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson previously said: “Sadly, this is now confirmed a fatal collision so if anyone has any information, please come forward.
“This includes anyone who witnessed the incident, or has CCTV, dashcam, doorbell or mobile phone footage from the area.”
