Hollyoaks is set to grant yet another fan wish as a brand new family are all set to rock up in the eponymous village – and it’s safe to say they waste little time in making a splash, with the stars warning viewers to ‘buckle up’.

Fresh images show the newcomers packing up a removal van as they prepare for a new life in the Chester-based village – and they’re very much giving off good vibes and great dynamics.

The first stars announced as part of this long-awaited new family have already filmed their debut scenes for the Channel 4 soap and they’ve done so on-location, which will surely make them ones to remember.

If you’re a fan of the soaps – and I imagine that you are if you’re reading this – then you might just recognise the actors set to take Hollyoaks by storm, with Emmerdale’s Matthew Wolfenden playing the patriarch of the clan alongside Coronation Street stars Rebecca Ryan and Lewis Walton.

Matthew, who starred as David Metcalfe in the ITV soap for 17 years, said of his casting: ‘I’m so excited to finally share that I’m joining Hollyoaks as part of a brand-new family arriving in the village.

‘It’s an absolute privilege to step into this world and be part of something so iconic. From the moment I read the scripts, I knew this was going to be something special.

‘I can’t wait for the audience to meet them and see how they turn a few heads along the way… it’s going to be a ride, buckle up.’

Rebecca, meanwhile, played Adam Barlow’s ex Lydia Chambers on Coronation Street between 2021 and 2022, as well as Debbie Gallagher in long-running Channel 4 series Shameless.

Discussing her new role, she said: ‘I am so excited to be joining the cast of Hollyoaks.

‘My character is feisty and a bit of a firecracker but fiercely loyal. I am so excited for everyone to meet her. I am having the best time so far and can’t wait for her story to unfold.’

The third cast member set to be introduced is Lewis Walton, who is best known for having played the role of young Mick in a flashback episode of Coronation Street.

Royal insiders are suggesting that concerns are mounting over the extent of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie’s connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein

The fallout from Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s controversial relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein appears to have little impact on his two daughters. However, recent developments have drawn his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson deeper into the scandal. While Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie seem largely unaffected, reports suggest they may be excluded from four royal engagements last this year.

But according to the Daily Telegraph ‘s executive editor Camilla Tominey, that situation could be about to shift. She noted that several royal insiders have hinted privately that Beatrice and Eugenie may face scrutiny. Reading a text message she received from a ‘royal insider’ on the Daily T podcast, Camilla said: “The York sisters stuff is going to get a lot worse.

“They’ve escaped a lot of the scrutiny, but there’s a lot of information on them and their associations with Epstein along with their parents.” Beatrice and Eugenie are reported to have joined their mother on a trip to visit Epstein in Miami shortly after his release from prison on a sex-related conviction.

At the time of the visit Eugenie was 19 years old, while Beatrice was 21. “They weren’t five-year-old girls when they were taken to see Epstein. They were grown ups,” insists author Andrew Lownie, whose book Entitled sparked a wave of revelations about Andrew. There is currently no evidence of any wrongdoing on the part of either sister, the Express reports.

Reports also suggest that Beatrice and Eugenie were at times asked by Epstein to entertain some of his unidentified associates and even give tours of Buckingham Palace. “There does seem to be this rumbling idea that there is more to discover,” says the Telegraph’s Royal Editor Hannah Furness.

Hannah emphasised that although insider gossip suggest that the York sisters are “up to their necks” in the Epstein scandal, there is no evidence they were aware of the convicted sex trafficker’s activities at his various properties worldwide.

The “mood music” surrounding Beatrice and Eugenie appear to have shifted in recent weeks, Hannah adds. When the King removed his younger brother’s title of prince in October last year, the sisters retained their own titles, with assurances that for them it would remain “business as usual”.

“That seems to have gone a little bit quiet in the last few weeks,” Hannah added. “I’m not sure the girls feel as supported as they did by the Palace.”

With uncertainty over how much support they currently have from King Charles, Hannah states “They’re sort of in this vacuum of suggestions and rumours and questions, but not very many answers for them and that must be frustrating.”

There is considerable uncertainty over whether the sisters will attend Royal Ascot this year, and it seems highly unlikely that they will participate in the traditional carriage procession alongside the senior royals.

In the most recent set of documents linked to the Epstein investigation, both Beatrice and Eugenie’s names appear repeatedly, with Eugenie reportedly mentioned over 300 times. While the presence of a name in the sprawling collection of papers does not constitute evidence of wrongdoing, in the highly scrutinised world of royalty, perception carries immense weight.

A royal insider told The i newspaper that although Beatrice and Eugenie might attend Royal Ascot privately, they are unlikely to take part in the ceremonial processions that precede each day’s racing.

They said: “They might attend the races among the crowd but they can’t be seen in the royal carriage procession with all this going on.” Additionally, there is currently no expectation that either princess will be present at the Trooping the Colour ceremony in June.

Royal biographer Russell Myers pointed out that although Prince William had previously invited his cousins to help him and his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, host a garden party at Buckingham Palace, it now seems almost certain that this summer he will follow his father’s example.

“He can’t be seen to be acting out of turn against the King, and there is no indication that he wants to,” he said.

According to the Mail on Sunday, the Prince and Princess of Wales are now determined to keep Beatrice and Eugenie “at arm’s length,” at least “for the rest of the year.”

Meanwhile, the Sunday Times reports that the couple have been “careful” to avoid being seen alongside the princesses as far back as Christmas Day at Sandringham.

As snippets of information continue to drip-feed from the Epstein investigation, the senior royals will presumably continue to exercise extant caution.

Cop cars and an ambulance were spotted outside of the McDonald’s on Maryhill Road, Glasgow.

A McDonald’s in Glasgow has been taped off by police amid an ongoing emergency incident.

The fast-food restaurant on Maryhill Road has been cordoned off by officers, who have been spotted standing guard inside. In images shared with Glasgow Live, paramedics can also be seen in attendance at around 6.40pm this evening, March 11.

A cordon has been erected around the entrance to the McDonald’s, with at least two police vehicles and one ambulance on scene. According to an eye-witness, the restaurant remains “shut” at this time. The nature of the incident is unclear at this stage.

Police Scotland has been approached for comment.

For a gelding who has lost as many races as he has won, Fact To File will be a very short-priced favourite for the Ryanair Chase on Thursday, setting Willie Mullins up for a possible clean sweep of Cheltenham’s feature races.

Those who do oppose him will take comfort from the fact he can bounce a bit after a big win. At Christmas he was below par in the King George after a terrific duel with Gaelic Warrior in the John Durkan, and he had a hard race on heavy ground winning the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown six weeks ago. 

But you have to set that against his Cheltenham record which is unblemished since he finished runner-up on his first visit in the bumper. He has won the Brown Advisory, and last year’s nine-length win in this race was, visually at any rate, the most impressive at the meeting. He seems to love the place.

Owner JP McManus looks to hold a particularly strong hand here and could end up filling the first two places home as his pair of Jonbon and Fact To File both look to hold outstanding claims. Jonbon has long dined at the top table and has been a star for connections. Indeed, a Cheltenham Festival win is one of the few things that has evaded Jonbon so far, having finished runner-up on all three runs at this meeting previously. Conversely, Fact To File has won on two of his three visits to this meeting, including an impressive nine-length win in this race last year. He comes forward off the back of taking a five-length victory in the Irish Gold Cup (denying the likes of Gaelic Warrior and Galopin Des Champs) and, in calmer waters, he is expected to take all the beating here.

Banbridge
Top-class chaser but has seemed to go better right-handed than left in recent seasons. Big chance on his best but not certain to produce it here.

Croke Park
Last seen running down the field in a handicap at Leopardstown last month, form that leaves him a long way short of what will be required here.

Fact To File
Record at the Festival reads 211 and brings forward the best form in the race. Looks especially potent at this distance; takes all the beating here.

Heart Wood
Second in this race last year and had a good season so far, winning two of his three starts. This demands more though; place chance.

Impaire Et Passe
Just the one start so far this season and faces a tough task off just the one run this campaign; each-way player all the same.

Jonbon
Incredible performer who has never finished out of the first two in 27 starts under rules. Unbeaten beyond two miles and looks the clear danger to Fact To File.

JPR One
Been plying his trade in handicaps all season and now steps into Grade 1 company. Tough task; best watched.

Master Chewy
Comes up short repeatedly in Graded company of late and this is likely to be no exception; best watched.

Matata
Good winner on New Year’s Day, the form of which would give him a squeak here; could run into a place.

Big-race trends

Mares Novices Hurdle
A tough race to get a handle on from a trends perspective, due in large part to the fact there have only been 10 runnings. What we do know is that 10 out of 10 winners were aged five or six and seven out of 10 were trained in Ireland.

Stayers’ Hurdle
Key metrics here are pre-race rating and success at the trip. A total of nine of the last 12 winners were sent off with a rating of at least 156 – which is plenty high enough for a staying hurdler. It is also worth noting that nine of the last 12 winners have at least one win at three miles or further. It can be a risky strategy to roll the dice on a horse which has yet to prove himself at the trip. In terms of trials, Cheltenham’s Cleeve Hurdle is a decent yardstick, having produced four winners in the last 12 years. This year’s winner was Ma Shantou, who beat Impose Toi by seven lengths.

Ryanair Chase
An open race so age is a consideration here and all of the last 12 winners have been between the age of seven and nine, with nine of those 12 having at least one win at Cheltenham before winning the Ryanair. Look for quality horses also, with 11 of the last 12 winners having been rated 162 or higher before running and nine of those 12 having at least one win in a Grade 1.

The latest ground report has the official going as Good to Soft as racing switches to the New Course. However, the forecast on Thursday is for rain to move in during the afternoon, with strong winds, and continue through the night.

For black female professional footballers, racism has become a distressingly regular part of the game. Earlier this year, England defender Jess Carter told the BBC that the racist abuse she received online during the 2025 Euros made her fearful to leave her hotel room.

Black sportswomen routinely deal with racial abuse from fans and teammates. But less discussed is how their bodies, emotions and on-pitch performances are spoken about by sports commentators. It’s not just negative comments, either. Clear racial stereotypes emerge when comparing positive comments about black players with those about white players. Our 2025 study examines commentary during the 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup, does just that.

We analysed 2,905 comments of praise given to footballers during 80 hours of BBC and ITV coverage, across all 52 matches at the tournament. We found that white women were more frequently praised for their intelligence and technical proficiency, while black women received the most praise for their perceived physical prowess and natural athleticism.

White players were more frequently praised skills learned through practice, such as having a “lovely technique” (49.4% of all comments about white players), followed by physical (20.3%), character (16.2%), cognitive (10.8%) and natural (3.3%) abilities.

Black players received almost double the amount of praise for their physical prowess (39.5% of comments about black players) and natural abilities (5.8%). They received notably fewer praise comments for learned skills (36.8%), as well as lower amounts of praise for character (11.9%) and cognitive attributes (6.0%).

These differences were especially noticeable in the coverage of national teams from white-majority countries that had more than two black players in their starting squad. England’s two non-white players (accounting for 18.2% of the team) received 50% of all of their team’s praise for natural attributes. These were comments praising qualities that were perceived to be innate, such as being a “magician” on the pitch. England’s visibly white players (81.8% of the team) received almost the entire amount of the praise given to the whole team for cognitive attributes (96%).

France’s black players, who accounted for 43% of team, received 90% and 85% of the team’s total praise for natural and physical attributes, respectively. White French players, who similarly constituted 43% of the playing squad, received 68% of the teams’ total praise for intelligence.

We also found that black female players were more likely to be described as being angry and emotionally unstable during matches. Nigeria’s forward Desire Oparanozie was described as “playing with a bit of anger” and England’s Nikita Parris was said to be unable to maintain her composure, with a tendency to frequently “make her feelings known”.

Their white teammates, on the other hand, were described as calm and composed.
During the England v Cameroon match, commentators praised the almost entirely white England team for keeping their composure and not “reacting” to “unseemly things going on the pitch” by the African players.

The harm of misogynoir

Black women experience a unique form of discrimination called misogynoir. It is different to the exclusions faced by white women and the racism experienced by black men. It is the result of a combination of the misogyny directed at their gender and the anti-black racism directed at their race.

Sport media is a powerful site where the gender and racial stereotypes that exist in society are replicated. It has a long history of portraying black sportswomen as powerful, hyper-masculine and angry.

Studies have shown that black sportswomen are frequently stereotyped as unfeminine, masculine and strong, lacking intelligence, emotionally unstable, inherently angry and overly aggressive. Conversely, white women are seen to embody Eurocentric beauty standards and accepted feminine ideals, such as notions of purity, grace, emotional stoicism and delicacy.

These stereotypes have real-life consequences for black sportswomen. Some footballers have gone so far as to change how they play so that they are not seen as angry or masculine, but just as women who play the game they love. For example, ex-England player Anita Asante explained:

You have to check yourself to make sure people don’t view you in that light. Maybe on that particular day in a training session, I am that sassy person, or I am that competitive person that comes across a bit more feisty – but because there is an association with being a black woman and having that energy and boldness is not always seen a positive thing, [so] I might refrain from being that person and contain more of my emotions.

Evidence shows that misogynoir can influence the career opportunities that are afforded to black women more generally. A recent US study connected racism to higher levels of stress and to higher mortality rates.

Unless, meaningful action is taken by broadcasters to change the practice of commentary through tallying exercises like our research, then commentators might be unwittingly contributing to the racial stereotypes that cause psychological and physiological harm to the same superstars that they idolise and praise.

The Baltimore Ravens landed their star pass rusher in Trey Hendrickson, Maxx Crosby is back in Las Vegas for now and Daniel Jones is staying in Indianapolis as part of a busy start to the new league year.

The biggest move Wednesday came when the Ravens agreed to a four-year, $112 million contract with four-time Pro Bowl defensive end Trey Hendrickson a day after backing out of a deal with the Raiders for Crosby over a failed physical, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.

Hendrickson was an All-Pro for Cincinnati in 2024 when he led the NFL with 17 1/2 sacks. He played in only seven games because of injuries last season and had four sacks but has reached double digits in sacks four times in the previous five seasons.

It was a quick pivot for the Ravens after the surprising development Tuesday night when Baltimore pulled out of the trade that was supposed to send two first-round picks to Las Vegas.

A person with knowledge of Baltimore’s decision told the AP that Crosby failed his physical. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because those results are private.

Crosby had surgery in January to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. He missed the final two games of the season because of the injury despite wanting to play through it at the time.

The Raiders, who have been among the biggest spenders in the opening days of free agency, now must figure out what to do with Crosby. Las Vegas still has plenty of cap room to keep the five-time Pro Bowler on the roster with his $30 million salary if the team can’t find another trade. Crosby was back in the team facility in Nevada on Wednesday, a person with knowledge said on condition of anonymity.

Jones and the Colts agreed on a two-year contract that is worth up to $100 million, a person with knowledge of the contract told the AP. The person requested anonymity because the deal had not yet been announced.

Jones will receive $88 million over the next two seasons with $50 million guaranteed instead of playing on the $37.8 million transition tag. He can make an additional $12 million through incentives.

Jones led the Colts offense to a productive 10-game start. But following the bye week, Jones played through a hairline fracture in his left leg and then wound up suffering a season-ending torn right Achilles tendon in early December.

Jones set career highs in passer rating (100.2) and completion rate (68%) as Indianapolis ranked fifth in the NFL in scoring at 28.9 points per game before he went down for the season.

All the people are speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because teams haven’t announced the moves or other developments.

Washington agreed to terms with edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson on a one-year contract worth $12 million with $10.3 million guaranteed, according to Athletes First, the agency that represents him. Coming off ranking last in the NFL on defense, the Commanders also reached deals with linebacker Leo Chenal and cornerback Amik Robertson, after losing out to Baltimore on Hendrickson.

In other news, the Ravens and Bills both restructured the contracts of star quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen to create more room under the salary cap to start the league year.

Baltimore had been hoping to sign Jackson to an extension before the start of the new league year Wednesday. But that hasn’t happened. Instead the Ravens have restructured Jackson’s deal to create cap space, according to a person with knowledge of the deal, speaking on condition of anonymity because the contract hadn’t been finalized.

Jackson has two years remaining on the five-year, $260 million contract the Ravens gave him in 2023.

Buffalo’s move with Allen frees up approximately $12 million in much-needed salary cap space for the team entering the NFL’s new year, a person familiar with the discussions told the AP.
