The free events will offer a programme of demonstrations and lessons tailored to different age groups, beginners and intermediate levels.
Free skate lessons for young people are set to take place in Co Antrim over the next two years.
Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has partnered with Skateboard NI to deliver a series of free Skate Activation Events, bringing together skateboarders from across the Borough and beyond.
The events, which will launch on Saturday, August 29, will run over a period of two years. Supported through the PEACEPLUS Programme and managed by the Special EU Programmes Body, the events will take place at Skate 100, V36, Newtownabbey, and will also help promote skateboarding opportunities ahead of the development of the new skate facility planned for Antrim Forum.
The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Henry Cushinan said, “Since opening in 2022, Skate 100 has become a popular hub for the local skating community. In partnership with Skateboard NI, these Skate Activation Events will inspire people of all ages and abilities to get involved in action sports, build confidence, develop new skills and learn from expert skateboarders through live demonstrations, as plans progress for the new skate facility at the Antrim Forum.”
Designed to celebrate skate culture, to introduce and encourage participation in action sports, the free events will offer a programme of demonstrations and lessons tailored to different age groups, beginners and intermediate levels.
Participants can register through the Council’s website to take part in the first Skate Activation Event on Saturday, August 29, from 11am to 5pm at Skate 100. The programme will feature age-specific sessions throughout the day:
- 11am to 12.30pm: Ages 6 to 10
- 1pm to 2.30pm: Ages 11 to 14
- 3pm to 4.30pm: Ages 15+
Future Skate Activation Events are planned across the next two years on the following dates, which could be subject to change: Saturday 29 August 2026, 11am to 5pm, Saturday 31 October 2026, 11am to 5pm, Saturday 13 March 2027, 11am to 5pm, Saturday 24 July 2027, 11am to 5pm, Saturday 20 November 2027, 11am to 5pm, Saturday 4 March 2028, 11am to 5pm, Saturday 17 June 2028, 11am to 5pm, Saturday 16 September 2028, 11am to 5pm.
