DPD issues notice to anyone printing labels for its parcels

The delivery firm says it is important for a parcel’s address to be formatted correctly so it can be processed without any issues and delivered efficiently.

The company’s guidance states: “If you want to send a parcel with DPD, you will be required to print out a parcel label, which means that you will need our label templates.”

DPD adds: “To ensure successful delivery, it is essential that we are provided with complete and correct details for the consignee.”

The parcel address should be labelled with:

• Name
• Street
• Building number
• Postcode
• Town or city

A clearly written address will increase “the chances of a successful delivery”.

DPD also reminded customers that it does not deliver to PO boxes.

DPD recommends that its customers print labels with a laser printer or label printer.

The company said: “Ink jet printers are highly sensitive and take a while to dry.

“The labels contain highly fragile barcodes, so it does not take much for something to smudge and the codes to become unreadable.”

If an inkjet printer is the only option, DPD advises allowing the label to dry fully before sticking it onto the parcel.

DPD adds: “If you do not have self-adhesive labels and print the labels on normal paper, we recommend that you cover each label completely with clear packing tape.

“This will protect the labels and barcodes from the weather and other variables.”

DPD general packaging advice

DPD advises using “good quality carton boxes that are strong and rigid” for its deliveries.

If the box bends or folds due to the weight of the contents, it is not suitable.

It adds: “Ideally, for heavy loads, you should use carton boxes made of high-quality corrugated cardboard.

“These should preferably be double-walled to ensure strength, durability, and protection.”

Getting the correct size of carton is also crucial, as under-filled boxes are likely to collapse, and overfilled boxes are at risk of bursting open.
