The B6270 running from Gunnerside to Satron will be closed from 7pm on Monday, March 9, until 6am on Friday, March 13, to allow Yorkshire Water to install a new water supply connection.

The closure will be in force overnight only, from 7pm to 6am, Monday to Friday, with access maintained to premises where possible.

A signed diversion of around 67 miles (109 kilometres) will be in place while the works are carried out.

The alternative route will take motorists via a lengthy rural loop including sections of Nateby Road, Market Street, North Road, Forcett Lane, Reeth Road, Angram Lane and Cloggerby Rigg, among other connecting roads.

The estimated diversion time is around two hours, with the reverse route applying in the opposite direction.

Drivers are being urged to allow significantly more time for journeys and to check signage before travelling during the closure period.

Yorkshire Water Services Limited, which is responsible for the works, said the closure is “necessary to carry out essential upgrades to its network”.

In a statement, the company said: “We are carrying out work to either install, renew or replace assets on our water network. This is essential work to ensure we provide a reliable service to our customers.”

The utility provider acknowledged that roadworks can be disruptive and said the project has been “carefully planned under strict licence from the local authority to minimise disruption”.

Motorists travelling through the Gunnerside and Satron area next week are advised to plan ahead and consider alternative routes where possible during the evening and overnight closures.
