Emergency services on roof of York Minster after medical incident

Firefighters were seen on the roof at 3.30pm on Tuesday (August 11).

A spokesperson for York Minster said emergency services were called to York Minster earlier today following a medical incident involving a visitor at the top of the Central Tower.

“The individual is receiving medical attention, and we are working closely with the emergency services, including the fire service and air ambulance team, to support their response and facilitate a safe evacuation,” the spokesperson said.

“As a precaution, areas around the Minster have been temporarily cordoned off while emergency operations take place. We are grateful to visitors, residents, and businesses for their patience and understanding while this incident is managed.

“The welfare of the individual remains our primary concern. Out of respect for their privacy and that of their family, we will not be providing further personal details at this time.

“We would like to thank the emergency services for their swift and professional response.”
