As a 10-year-old kid in 1990 I watched England beat Cameroon on holiday in Crete, then watched the semi-final against Germany in the hotel bar that was split pretty much 50-50 between English and German tourists. Heartbreaker.
In 2002 when England lost to Brazil, I was working on the building sites with my dad. It was a 7.30am kick-off if you remember, and the site manager was worried none of us would turn up for work so set up a telly in a living room of a half-built house. We all watched Ronaldinho chip David Seaman then did a full shift. That was another bad day.
