While most people will put a fan in the corner of a room to keep it out of the way, this prevents it from working as well.

Experts at Next Day Fans have said there are specific places you should put a fan to make it work better for you.

They said: “To allow fans to utilise the existing airflow of the room, they work best when placed near an open window or door.”

A fan works by moving air around a room to help it carry heat away from you.

If you place a fan next to a wall in the corner of a room, it will block the air from getting into the fan and keep the room feeling hot.

You should be giving your fan at least 30 centimetres of space and it will make your house feel significantly cooler.

Putting the fan near a window or door can help get rid of the warm air while pushing cooler air around your room.

Finding the right spot for your fan can make a huge difference when trying to cool your house in the summer.

How to cool down before bed to help you sleep at night

While you want to keep cool during the day, the heat can make it incredibly difficult to get to sleep at night as well.

There are a few ways you can cool yourself down before going to bed such as using the pulse point method where you soak areas like your wrists and ankles in cool water.

You could also take a warm shower before bed to help cool your body down.

It is important to avoid taking a cold shower before bed, as this will cause your blood vessels to constrict and trap the heat in.
