Families pay tribute to two cyclists killed in car crash after driver ‘lost control’ and ploughed into them near Gravesend

Two cyclists who were killed by a car after it reportedly lost control and crashed into them have been pictured as their families pay tribute.

Steven Anscomb and Natasha Lewis and a third person were knocked off their bikes while riding down Sole Street in Gravesend, Kent, on Sunday September 6.

 Mr Anscomb and Ms Lewis both died of ‘traumatic and catastrophic’ injuries at the scene, the force confirmed this afternoon. Another cyclist was taken to hospital for treatment on ‘minor’ injuries.

Kent Police have since charged 22-year-old Aaron Turner with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a road accident, and drug possession.

A 21-year-old man and 19-year old-woman were released on bail while enquiries continue after being arrested last week.

In a tribute to Mr Anscombe, his wife Fiona and daughters Liberty and Imogen said: ‘Steven was an amazing, kind, caring, hardworking dad, friend, and the most amazing husband.

‘On Sunday he went out for his last ride before his big bike ride to Amsterdam. But sadly, he never came home.

‘He will be so very deeply missed by so many and has been robbed of the special times of life. We love you forever Steve.’

Ms Lewis’s daughter, Hermione, said: ‘No words can describe what an amazing, thoughtful, and strong woman she was.

‘I am truly so grateful to have her as my mum. She was so healthy and exercise was one of her true loves. She had so many more years to experience this life.

‘My heart goes out to everyone that has ever felt this pain. My mum was one of a kind. Mum, I love you so much.’

Turner has been has been granted bail after appearing at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday via video link.

A statement released by Kent Police on Sunday said: ‘Officers investigating a double fatal collision in Cobham near Gravesend have charged a man. 

‘At 7.47am on Sunday 6 September 2026, a white Ford Focus was travelling in a south westerly direction along Sole Street towards Meopham, when it was involved in a collision with three cyclists.

‘Emergency services attended the scene near the junction with Round Street where two of the riders, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s, were confirmed to be deceased.

‘Their next of kin have been informed. The third cyclist was taken to a local hospital for treatment to injuries described as minor.

‘Two men and a woman were subsequently arrested.’
