Chief Inspector Michael Parker, from Greater Manchester Police’s Roads Policing Unit, was waiting for a train home from work on Friday, June 6 2025, when he noticed a man collapsed on the platform.

Realising the man was not breathing, he immediately began performing CPR.

Mike administered chest compressions alone for 10 minutes until the ambulance arrived and continued alongside medical staff for a further 35 minutes, giving the man a chance at life.

The man, 53-year-old Emanuel Michlowicz, sadly passed away 16 days later.

However, his wife Claudia and daughter Wiktoria say Mike’s actions gave them invaluable time to say their goodbyes.

After seven months of searching, Emanuel’s family were finally able to meet Mike at Greater Manchester Police Headquarters on Thursday 29 January 2026.

Claudia Michlowicz said: “I can never have enough words to say thank you to him, ever.

“We have tried hard to find him because he gave the family a gift, because if he wasn’t there Emanuel would have passed away on the station platform.

“We had 16 days to spend with him because of him, he is our hero, an angel, so never in my life will I ever have the words to say thanks to Mike.

“Emanuel really tried to come back to us but sadly he could not, but to have those two weeks, I am forever grateful for that, and I know he is not with us now, but I know he is up in heaven, smiling down at us now.”

Wiktoria added: “I have never lost anyone close to me, so to lose my dad at 16 was really difficult, being in the ICU and stuff like that, but if I would have got a phone call to say that my died had died at the platform, it would have been ten times worse.

“Thanks to Mike and his actions, we were able to have 16 days to process everything, try our best to save him.

“But as my mum said, I don’t really think I will ever have the words to say how much him doing what he did that day, means to us.

“What Mike did for our family restores our faith in humanity, there is a lot of bad in the world, but it is moments like that, that you know there are still good people in the world.”

Chief Inspector Parker said: “I was devastated to learn about the passing of Emanuel, I only found out a few days ago after the story went out on the January 21.

“But to hear the family have been trying to get in touch with me was truly humbling.

“I know they hold me in high regard because of my actions that day, but I reiterate what I have said previously, I am not a hero, I was just the right person in the right place at the right time.

“I know anyone in my position, whether that be another off-duty cop or member of the public would have done the same.

“To meet Claudia and Wiktoria has been a real highlight of my career, sometimes you don’t see the other side of how it has affected someone’s family, but to play a part in them saying goodbye, means a lot to me.”
