People living nearby are being told to keep windows and doors closed
A fire has broken out at a nature reserve in Peterborough. Roughly 40 firefighters are currently tackling a fire at Hampton Nature Reserve, with smoke visible in the air.
Firefighters were first called to the scene at 3.48pm this afternoon (August 25). The fire service has warned that smoke could affect Fletton Parkway and neighbouring houses, so motorists should pass with care and residents should close windows and doors if the smoke blows in their direction.
A spokesperson for the Cambrodgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We currently have eight fire engines (approx. 40 firefighters) tackling a fire at Hampton Nature Reserve. Crews are working hard to contain the fire. Smoke may be affecting the Fletton Parkway and neighbouring houses, so motorists should drive past the fire with caution and residents should keep doors and windows closed if affected by the smoke.”
People are also being advised to avoid Natures Way as the road is likely to be partially blocked by fire engines parked along it.
