Fire closes streets in Scarborough – crews on scene
Firefighters have brought the blaze in Queen Street, Scarborough, under control but the road remains closed at its junction with Elders Street on Saturday morning (August 8), North Yorkshire Police said.
Market Street and sections of pavement in the area are also closed while emergency services work on the scene.
Traffic can still access Friar’s Way but police are urging people to avoid the area.
“Please avoid this area to allow the crews to work safely,” a police spokesperson said.
Video showed two fire engines parked outside the Boyes department store in Queen Street.
A Boyes staff member said they understood the fire was at a unit opposite the store in Queen Street.
Police said a market is still running in the area.
