Fire crews called after fuel spill fears at Farnworth crash

Just before 9pm on Sunday night (February 1), emergency services were called to Longcauseway in Farnworth, near the junction with Albert Road.

Fire crews first thought there may have been an oil spill from one of the cars, but later confirmed that it was water and not fuel.

They confirmed there were no injuries and no arrests and the road reopened at 9.45pm.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 9pm last night (Sunday 1st February), one fire engine from Farnworth fire station was called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two cars on Longcauseway, Farnworth.

 “The crew arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters worked to make the vehicle and area safe.

“The drivers and passengers of the vehicles were assessed at the scene by colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.

 “Firefighters were in attendance for around thirty minutes.”
