Firefighters share cause of Hampton nature reserve fire which closed road for six hours

Firefighters remained at the fire scene for at least six hours

Firefighters spent more than six hours dealing with a nature reserve fire in Cambridgeshire. Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue were called to a fire in the Hampton Nature Reserve in Peterborough at around 3.38pm on Tuesday (August 25).

The fire spread to around 12 acres of scrubland. A fire service spokesperson said: “At 3.38pm on Tuesday crews from Dogsthorpe, Yaxley, Stanground, Huntingdon, Chatteris, March, Gamlingay, St Neots and Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to a fire in the open on Natures Way in Hampton.

“Firefighters worked hard using jets, hose reels and beaters to extinguish a fire affecting approximately 12 acres of scrubland. Crews returned to their stations by 10pm and have been returning to reinspect the area.”

The fire was deemed to be accidental. Natures Way was partially closed while the fire was dealt with.

Smoke could be seen from the air and blew towards the Fletton Parkway. Drivers were warned to be careful of the smoke.
