Fourteen people fled the restaurant with some seriously wounded
A fire at a restaurant blaze in a European tourist spot has left five people unaccounted for, with eight injured. The incident happened at a building housing a Portuguese eatery called Beverin, in Thusis, Switzerland.
The fire started after midnight this morning (August 21), reports The Mirror. Almost 100 firefighters raced to the scene where the building’s roof was forced open with a crane after the staircase collapsed.
Fourteen people were able to flee the restaurant but eight have sustained injuries, including two who are thought to be seriously wounded, two moderately, and four slightly. The cause of the fire unknown yet but it is believed to have broken out in the building’s second floor.
Accommodation and food has been offered by officials in the Thusis municipality to anyone impacted by the inferno. It sparked a response from multiple fire crews, including those based in Cazis, Oberer Heinzenberg, Ems Chemie, and Albula.
The Alpine Graubünden region is a much-loved holiday destination for winter sports and summer nature activities. Police are reportedly investigating the cause of the fire.
