Simply Plants highly recommend a versatile perennial that not only looks great with it’s white and pale pink blush petals, but gives off an incredible vanilla aroma too
If you’re looking to brighten up your garden with something that not only looks beautiful but smells absolutely wonderful too, there’s one particular flowering plant that comes very highly recommended. “I genuinely wish you could smell this through your screen,” declared TikTok account Simply Plants in a video.
Holding a blooming plant aloft in a pot, they unveiled the stunning white perennial known as the Nemesia ‘Wisley Vanilla’, which is commonly grown as a summer bedding plant.
Simply Plants continued: “Honestly, the fragrance coming off this plant is incredible. It’s covered in delicate flowers and produces a beautiful, sweet vanilla scent that really stands out as you walk past.”
It’s a versatile choice too, as the gardening experts noted that Nemesia ‘Wisley Vanilla’ is “perfect” for pots, containers and sunny spots. “You can enjoy the fragrance throughout the summer,” they went on to enthuse.
Simply Plants concluded: “If you want a plant that smells as good as it looks, this one is definitely worth considering.”.
Meanwhile, the RHS recommends cultivating the plant in moist, fertile soil in full sun.
“Flowering stops in dry weather unless watered freely,” they added.

And when it comes to pruning, the RHS further advises: “Pinch out growing tips to produce bushy plants, and trim off flowering shoots when initial flowering is finished to promote more flowers.”
Nemesia ‘Wisley Vanilla’ also boasts the qualities of being generally pest and disease-free.
Responding to Simply Plants’ clip, one viewer enthused: “Absolutely gorgeous smell. My favourite Nemisia. It’s supposed to be an annual, but mines come back in the second year.”
A second TikTok user wrote: “I have them in a pot in my garden, I love them. I had the same plants for about four years, but for some reason this year they didn’t survive over winter. Bought two new plants a few a weeks ago the scent is just beautiful.”
A third person added: “This is my favourite and no one seems to have heard of it!”
While a fourth TikTok user remarked: “Mine’s come back this year absolutely huge! The smell is so gorgeous.”
